People who know me well are aware that I tend to be very critical of the things I enjoy. This often comes across as me not liking something, especially when I start pointing out small details and imperfections that most people wouldn’t even notice. However, I genuinely like to analyze and think deeply about the things I love, even if they aren’t perfect. For instance, I’ve been a fan of Marvel Comics for as long as I can remember, but my opinions on specific Marvel games – which ones I’ve enjoyed or disliked and the reasons why – have changed a lot over the past twenty years.
I really enjoy a few Marvel games because they stand out from the rest-either by trying something new with gameplay for Marvel, or by being particularly memorable for when they came out. These include Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, and Marvel’s Midnight Suns. I spent well over 100 hours playing the last one on Steam.
When it comes to the Marvel game I’m most excited about, it’s not one of the big, typical releases. Instead, it’s Marvel Cosmic Invasion, a 2D action game with a classic, retro feel. I added Marvel Cosmic Invasion to my wishlist as soon as possible, and the recently released Steam demo has definitely lived up to my expectations.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion is One of My Most Highly Anticipated Steam Games
Before I found out a playable demo even existed, Marvel Cosmic Invasion immediately became one of the games I added to my Steam wishlist the quickest. To be clear, I’ve never really enjoyed beat-’em-up action games, and I don’t have a strong nostalgic connection to Marvel vs. Capcom or older Marvel games that share a similar bright visual style with beautiful pixel and sprite artwork.
I’m sure there are many other excellent beat-’em-ups, but I’ve never really been drawn to that genre. Most of those games focus on co-op play and don’t offer a lot of long-term engagement-you can probably tell I didn’t grow up playing arcade games! However, after playing the surprisingly unique Marvel’s Midnight Suns-which blended turn-based tactics with RPG and social simulation elements-I’ve been hoping for a Marvel game that’s a bit more inventive and doesn’t just follow the typical AAA formula. And Marvel Cosmic Invasion definitely delivers on that.
First, the characters in Marvel Cosmic Invasion come from a wide range of comic books, and it features a really compelling main villain, Annihilus (a great Marvel character the MCU hasn’t used yet). Second, the game’s locations capture what I loved most about Marvel Ultimate Alliance – the ability to travel across the globe and galaxy to explore many detailed Marvel environments.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s Demo Has Me Thirsting for the Full Release
After trying the demo for Marvel Cosmic Invasion, I’m even more excited for the game and can’t wait for it to come out. It looks like Marvel Cosmic Invasion is on track for a 2025 release, and could launch in the next few months – or even come as a surprise! This demo felt like a small taste of the full experience that’s coming soon.
To be honest, I’m happy to wait however long Tribute requires if they ultimately choose to postpone the release. Regardless, I’m really excited to remove Marvel Cosmic Invasion from my wishlist as soon as it’s available.
