New Steam Game Is Like Phasmophobia With Cryptids

Blue Ridge Hunting is a new Steam game that takes the ghost-hunting style of Phasmophobia and places it in the Appalachian Mountains. Instead of ghosts, players will hunt different kinds of cryptids – creatures from folklore and legend.

Blue Ridge Hunting began as a personal project for developer Jade Meadows in January 2023. Seeing potential in the idea of a multiplayer horror game where players hunt cryptids, Meadows created an independent game studio called Jade & Company to bring the game to life.

Blue Ridge Hunting Launches Kickstarter Campaign

The developer is getting closer to achieving their goal with the launch of their Kickstarter campaign for Blue Ridge Hunting. They’re hoping to raise $15,000 by November 30th. Even if the campaign doesn’t reach its full funding goal, the *Phasmophobiainspired game is still likely to be released. This is because the project already has a publisher, Six One Publishing, a smaller company that specializes in working with indie game developers.

Blue Ridge Hunting Free Demo Now Available on Steam

To support their crowdfunding efforts, Jade & Company has released a playable demo of Blue Ridge Hunting on Steam, where you can also add the full game to your wishlist. They plan to regularly update the demo with new content and improvements. Blue Ridge Hunting is designed for 2-3 players to enjoy together, but can also be played solo. The game will offer both a free-roam ‘Freeplay’ mode and a story-driven campaign where you and your friends hunt the legendary Mothman of the Appalachian Mountains.

Okay, so the art style in Blue Ridge Hunting is seriously cool – it’s going for that classic PlayStation 1 look, like those early 3D survival horror games. Think grainy, almost like found footage. They’re including proximity chat, which is awesome, but you gotta be careful what you say! The creatures in the Appalachians are always listening, and communication could actually help them hunt you down. If you’re into games like Phasmophobia or enjoyed the cryptids in Fallout 76, I think you’ll really dig this one.

Blue Ridge Hunting Launching in 2026 at an Affordable Price

The hunting game Blue Ridge Hunting is aiming to launch in early access in 2026, but it won’t be complete at first – players can expect about a third of the planned content on day one. While the exact release date in 2026 is still to be determined, the developers are now leaning towards a launch in the latter half of the year. The game will cost $9.99, and that price won’t change even after the early access period. Currently, Blue Ridge Hunting is only confirmed for PC and will be available exclusively through Steam. The developers, Jade & Company, plan to ensure the game is compatible with the Steam Deck and estimate the early access period will last around a year.
