On January 30th, the Fantasian Neo Dimension rolled out a minor game update across all platforms. This update brought in new play options without introducing any fresh content. However, it did significantly enhance the camera and movement controls, as well as adding custom difficulty sliders for New Game+ replays.
Back in 2021, I was thrilled to discover “Fantasian,” a masterpiece created by the legendary Hironobu Sakaguchi, the genius behind the “Final Fantasy” series, through his independent studio, Mistwalker. Initially, this game was exclusively available on Apple Arcade as two distinct parts. Fast forward to 2024, Sakaguchi teamed up with Square Enix’s Creative Studio 3 to expand its reach to various platforms. The result of this collaboration is “Fantasian Neo Dimension,” the comprehensive version of Mistwalker’s project. As a fan, I’m ecstatic about this collaboration because it allows players like me to personally choose and use battle tracks from the “Final Fantasy” series within the game!
Approximately a month post the launch of “Fantastian Neo Dimension”, Square Enix rolled out a minor update for players to download. This update in late January didn’t bring new content to “Fantasian Neo Dimension”, but it did introduce some new features. The adjustment in analog stick movement controls and the addition of a camera interpolation slider in the settings menu are two such enhancements. Known as the “Camera Interpolation Time” option, this new setting allows players of “Fantasian Neo Dimension” to customize the speed of the camera when navigating through the game’s open field areas (the default is 1.00). Additionally, players using a controller can opt to either turn off the vibration function altogether or only enable it during specific battles and events. Moreover, certain bugs unique to the PS5 version of “Fantasian Neo Dimension” were fixed, such as those causing the game to crash or the controller to cease responding under specific circumstances.
To provide players with greater flexibility in the New Game+ mode, additional controls have been incorporated. These new features include adjustable sliders for enemy strength and speed, as well as an option to ramp up the difficulty of New Game+ based on the number of replays. An alternative setting allows for enemies to remain at a first or second playthrough level, which may aid or impede players. As of now, it remains uncertain how the New Game+ modifications in the Fantasian Neo Dimension update will impact the acquisition of specific Trophies and Achievements.
Despite earlier announcements about retiring after the release of “Fantasian Neo Dimension”, Sakaguchi, the head of Mistwalker, is now considering creating a spiritual successor to “Final Fantasy 6” as one of his final significant works. It remains uncertain whether Square Enix will participate in this project as well.
