As a seasoned adventurer of Aeternum, I’ve been through my fair share of updates and events in this captivating MMORPG. The recent 1.1.2 update has certainly shaken things up, with the XP nerf in Cursed Mists making PvP a little more challenging – but hey, that just means I’ll have to work harder for those sweet rewards!

Amazon Games has rolled out a fresh update for the game New World: Aeternum, which reduces the experience points earned in the widely-played PvP zone known as Cursed Mists. This latest update for New World: Aeternum additionally corrects bugs, introduces new PC version features, and partially resolves crashing problems that surfaced in previous updates.

Amazon Games’ hit MMORPG, originally titled New World, made its debut on PCs in September 2021. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions were released on October 15, 2024, under the new title New World: Aeternum. This transition coincided with the start of the Nightfall Hallow event in New World: Aeternum. During this spooky seasonal event, players could engage in special limited-time activities and quests to win unique Halloween rewards. Additionally, by defeating Baalphazu, the level 66 Nightfall Hollow world boss, players could acquire armor pieces, costumes, and Nightveil Tokens as rewards. Before the most recent update, these Nightveil Tokens earned during the Nightveil Hallow event could be redeemed in the shop for free skins, emotes, and additional items.

This week, the update 1.1.2 for “New World: Aeternum” was launched, reducing the amount of experience points (XP) earned in the Cursed Mists area due to players gaining more XP than intended by the developers. However, rewards seem untouched by this adjustment, as players can still keep half of their rewards if they die or exit the Cursed Mists. If a player meets their demise in the Cursed Mists, they get a chance to re-enter the zone and collect any loot they dropped. It’s important to mention that with this update, Nightfall Hollow has concluded, so players will have to wait for another “New World: Aeternum” update to learn about the upcoming major in-game event.

Update 1.1.2 addressed several issues and made improvements to ensure smoother gameplay. This includes resolving a problem that halted progress in the Syndicate: Trail of the Scrivener quest, Faction ranks, and the “Repeat Offender” Season Journey task. A glitch causing players to pass through objects when navigating menus or vaulting was also rectified. Furthermore, Amazon Games corrected one of the crashing issues in New World: Aeternum, which they discovered was due to corrupted game installations.

As a gamer immersed in the PC version of New World: Aeternum, I’m thrilled to share that we now can leverage AMD’s FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) for temporal anti-aliasing at native resolution and fine-tune the FSR sharpness. The team has rectified the rendering artifacts in both PC and console versions, and they’ve boosted the quality of FSR’s upscaling to offer a more crisp visual experience. They’ve also tackled issues with emissive materials and weapons, ensuring they no longer obstruct my view while gaming.

New World: Aeternum Update 1.1.2 Patch Notes

World Experience

  • Fixed an issue that caused players to receive more PvP Experience than intended in the Cursed Mists zone.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented progress in the Syndicate: Trial of the Scrivener quest and Faction rank advancement.
  • Fixed an issue that caused several repeatable Expedition quests to not contribute to the “Repeat Offender” Season Journey task.
  • Fixed an issue that caused players to phase into certain objects when accessing menus while vaulting.

Rendering

  • PC DX12 Beta Client:
    • Added FSR native resolution TAA (Temporal Anti-Aliasing) only mode
    • Added FSR sharpness control
    • Improved the stability of our DX12 renderer
  • FSR – Console/PC DX12:
    • Improved visual quality of the FSR upscale
    • Fixed rendering artifacts that could occur during FSR upscaling
  • Fixed an issue in which emissive materials were not properly rendering, causing an unintended blue glow on several weapons.
  • Fixed an issue in which some weapon effects would appear overly blown-out, especially in heavy combat scenarios.
  • Fixed Depth-of-Field shimmering in certain lighting conditions (most notable during in-game cinematics).

Notable Fixes

  • Identified and fixed a rare crash that could occur if a player’s client has a corrupted install which causes certain texture files to be invalid. In these cases we will instead render a basic white texture, allowing players to proceed into the game. Players who see this white texture should validate their installation files afterwards to try to correct any prior installation issues.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented players on PC from progressing if they had Old Wounds ready for turn in before the release of New World: Aeternum.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the 3v3 Arena end of match UI to not display properly.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented nameplates from appearing.
