New Xbox Game Pass Co-Op Game Was Just Shadow Dropped

Xbox Game Pass now includes the cooperative survival game Young Suns, which was unexpectedly released on November 25th. It’s made by the team behind Goodbye Volcano High, KO-OP, but it’s important to note that it’s currently a Game Preview – meaning it’s still in development and not a complete, finished game.

Xbox’s “Game Preview” is similar to “early access” for games. Popular examples include titles like Palworld, Little Witch in the Woods, and Grounded, which were all available on Xbox before their official release. A key benefit of this program is that it lets console players try out games before they’re fully finished – something that doesn’t happen often on consoles.

Young Suns Shadow Drops on Xbox Game Pass

Okay, so I’m checking out this new game, Young Suns, and it’s set way in the future, orbiting Jupiter, after a big revolution. But it’s not a war game, thankfully! It’s more about hanging out and getting to know the different groups of people who live there. Think lots of talking to NPCs, customizing my ship and home base, and just generally chilling. I’ll be flying around in my ship, exploring these little planetoids in third-person, gathering resources. The main goal seems to be fixing up old space stations, and I’ll need all those resources I find to do it. It sounds like a really cozy, laid-back experience, which is exactly what I’m looking for!

Because Young Suns is currently in early access (called Game Preview on Xbox Game Pass), the developers at KO-OP plan to add more content, characters, and areas to play. As a game built for up to four players to enjoy together, KO-OP also wants to build a strong community of Young Suns fans, which will help the game thrive in the long run.

Right now, you can play Young Suns on Xbox and PC with an Xbox Game Pass subscription. The developers, KO-OP, say it’s also coming to Steam soon. The game’s announcement trailer hinted at releases on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch in the future, too.

It will be fascinating to watch how Young Suns evolves, as is typical for games released in early access. This model is proving popular for survival games, with titles like Palworld and Enshrouded finding success through it. Young Suns is unique because of its hopeful, solarpunk take on the future, and if combined with solid survival mechanics and compelling characters, it has the potential to really stand out in a busy genre.
