Next Xbox Will Reportedly Feature ‘Full Bore Windows’

A new report suggests the next Xbox will be closely integrated with the Windows operating system.

Late last year, we learned that the Xbox App on Windows 11 would gain true full-screen mode, making it simpler for gamers to switch between their desktop and the immersive Xbox gaming experience. Now, it appears Microsoft plans to use this same technology in its next generation Xbox console.

Next Xbox Console’s Only Difference from a Traditional PC is the Ability to Run Xbox One and Series X/S Games

A recent report from Windows Central shares details about Microsoft’s plans for the next Xbox, expected in 2026. It confirms that the console will be able to run a full version of Windows. Microsoft is working with AMD to deliver this experience through the Xbox PC app, using a feature called “Full Screen Experience,” and is actively developing the app to support it.

According to a new report, the next Xbox will stand out from standard PCs by being able to play games from the Xbox One, Series X, and Series S consoles – letting players continue using their existing game collections. The head of Xbox has also confirmed the new console will work with older games and will include artificial intelligence features. There’s also talk of a possible Xbox-branded PC coming out in 2026, but this is currently just a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt until officially confirmed.

Last year, James Corden shared that the next Xbox would be designed more like a PC, describing it as essentially a PC with a console-like design and specific hardware. Sarah Bond, President of Xbox, has also confirmed they’re actively developing the next generation of Xbox hardware, promising a high-performance gaming experience.
