For the first time in six years, the “Be A Pro” mode in the EA Sports NHL series is receiving an update with NHL 26. On Tuesday morning, EA Sports revealed details about the numerous new features that will be introduced to the widely-popular single-player mode during a deep dive presentation.
No More Pond Hockey
Instead of the long-standing tradition in EA Sports NHL’s Be A Pro featuring a pond hockey interview before the NHL draft, this time around, you’ll be starting your journey in the World Juniors tournament. This isn’t just about winning gold for your country; it’s also about enhancing your chances of being selected in the draft.
Instead of maintaining its previous form, Be A Pro in NHL 26 undergoes a complete overhaul, resulting in an engaging and responsive reincarnation of the mode. Fundamentally, NHL 26 introduces a career structure modeled on real-life professional hockey, featuring highs and lows reflected in chapters.
Following the mentioned game at the World Juniors, each phase of your career unravels as a distinct chapter, complete with customized obstacles and varied results. Unlike previous years, the route to fame is no longer a certainty. A subpar performance could lead to a demotion to the AHL, while exceptional play might earn you top-line game time.
The presentation underwent a significant transformation, enhancing the career experiences to seem more genuine and impactful. Notable instances such as entering an NHL locker room for the first time, walking through tunnels before crucial matches, celebrating victories at World Juniors, AHL trophies, hoisting the Stanley Cup, and even a retirement ceremony are now accentuated with captivating scenes and sequences. Moreover, a realistic media scrum system has been introduced, allowing you to interact directly with reporters. Your responses in these encounters can influence your reputation, relationships, and future career prospects. These elements infuse the season’s grind with emotional rewards that feel genuinely deserved.
In everyday language,
Outside of the rink, NHL 26 introduces a revamped central hub that links your career to the broader context. This hub monitors your ongoing challenges, showcases league news, and unveils a new “form score” that reflects recent performance. This score significantly impacts the amount of ice time you get, the trust coaches have in you, and the chances you’re offered within the team, ensuring constant accountability for how you perform on the ice.
This year, an essential new feature is the Energy and Progression System, linking gameplay, coaching, rest, and play style to your long-term progress. Managing your energy effectively will enable you to enhance and upgrade X-Factors, recognizing players who strike a balance between high-intensity action on the ice and astute decisions off it. Your character’s personality evolves down either the confident or influential path, based on how you engage with teammates, media, and coaching staff. Additional elements like salary bonuses, endorsements, and lifestyle improvements enhance the role-playing experience, giving you greater control over your legacy and the way you are remembered when your professional journey concludes.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m hyped about the upcoming changes in NHL 26’s Be A Pro mode! It seems like they’re aiming to make this version the most immersive and thrilling yet. However, we gamers will have to be patient and watch as the game unfolds when it drops on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Can’t wait to experience it all firsthand!
In simpler terms, if you opt for the Deluxe Edition of the game, you can play NHL 26 as early as September 5. For those who choose the Standard Edition, they’ll gain access to the game starting from September 12.
