Ninja Gaiden Ragebound is Releasing With an Asterisk on Switch

The game titled “Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound” has been verified to deliver a smooth 60 FPS performance on all platforms except the Nintendo Switch. This thrilling side-scrolling action platformer is set for release on July 31, 2025, and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and the initial version of the Nintendo Switch.

The newest venture from Game Kitchen, creators of the critically acclaimed Blasphemous series, is titled Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. This project was initially unveiled at The Game Awards in December 2024 and marks a return to the original 2D style for the popular 3D hack-and-slash franchise. Unlike previous installments, Ragebound introduces new protagonists, primarily Kenji Muzo and Kumori, instead of Ryu Hayabusa as the central character. Additionally, this game is set to release not only on current-gen and last-gen consoles but also on Xbox Game Pass on its launch day.

In their recent announcement, publisher Dotemu disclosed that the initial version of Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound will limit its frame rate to 30 FPS on the Nintendo Switch. This limitation applies only to this specific port, as the game will run at a smooth 60 FPS on other platforms. On a positive note, Dotemu hinted that the Switch 2 version of Ragebound, playable through backwards compatibility, would take advantage of the enhanced hardware in the new console. However, they didn’t specify how this performance boost would manifest within the game. Additionally, Dotemu promised to share details about post-launch updates for the game as soon as possible.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound to Support Only 30 FPS on Switch

– The Switch version will average a 30 FPS experience at launch. – The game will be playable on Switch 2 through backward compatibility and will benefit from the console’s specs. – Other platforms (PC, Steam Deck, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Xbox Series X|S) will have a solid 60 FPS experience. — Dotemu (@dotemu.bsky.social) 2025-07-29T13:02:46.181665Z

Post-launch updates will be shared with you as soon as possible. We remain grateful for your support and look forward to you playing NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound! — Dotemu (@dotemu.bsky.social) 2025-07-29T13:02:46.503250Z

In terms of their previous games in the same genre, The Game Kitchen’s titles Blasphemous and Blasphemous 2 generally ran smoothly at a consistent 60 frames per second (FPS) on the Nintendo Switch. Given this performance history, it might be disheartening for some Switch users that Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound doesn’t seem to offer the same smooth frame rate. Although the upcoming Switch 2 is rumored to handle pixel-graphics games better, it hasn’t been confirmed yet whether it will maintain a steady 60 FPS. However, Dotemu’s mention of post-launch updates gives some reason to hope for potential frame rate improvements on the Nintendo console in the future.

Significantly, the year 2025 holds great importance for the Ninja Gaiden series, as it boasts a number of releases throughout the year. Fans can anticipate playing Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound following the January launch of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black. Later in the year, the highly anticipated Ninja Gaiden 4, the latest installment in the franchise since 2012, is set to release on October 21 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
