Fans are still waiting for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to be available on the Nintendo Switch 2, and many would love to see that happen soon. Twilight Princess was created as a response to feedback on the art style of The Wind Waker; it brought a darker, more mature look back to the series, similar to games like Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. The game featured a more adult Link and received excellent reviews. Notably, it was released both for the GameCube and as a launch title for the Wii.
Honestly, Twilight Princess is a really special game to me. I don’t think I’d be writing about games at all if it hadn’t come along when it did. Back in 2006, I totally fell out of love with gaming. I was a typical teenager, completely focused on trying to date and honestly, that was all I cared about.

I was really bored during Christmas break one year because my girlfriend was away. On a whim, I rented The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the GameCube from a now-closed video store called Movie Gallery. I thought it would just kill a few days, but I quickly became completely hooked. I couldn’t put it down, and by the end, I was back into gaming in a big way. I’ve been searching for that same amazing feeling ever since, and I’d love to be able to replay Twilight Princess on current consoles.

As of today, Zelda: Twilight Princess isn’t available on the new Switch 2. While a remastered HD version came out for the Wii U – which I purchased when it was released – I never had the chance to play it due to work commitments. Now, years later, I’d rather keep my original, unopened copy of the game, complete with the Wolf Link amiibo. Plus, my Wii U is stored away, so I’d really prefer to play Twilight Princess on a Switch or Switch 2 if possible.
Nintendo has a few options for bringing Twilight Princess to the Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. They could release a ported version of the HD remaster, which has been a popular rumor for years, but hasn’t been confirmed yet. Another idea is to add the original GameCube version to the Switch 2’s library of classic games, similar to how Wind Waker from the GameCube is already available on Switch Online.
There’s talk that Nintendo might add support for the Wii to its collection of classic games. I’d love to see both the GameCube and Wii versions of Twilight Princess included. Hopefully, all different versions of the game will be playable on current systems in the future.
Twilight Princess Isn’t the Only Zelda Unavailable on Switch 2
With Nintendo Switch Online’s library of classic games and the upcoming Switch 2 being able to play older Switch games, most of the core Zelda titles are easily accessible on Nintendo’s newest system. However, even beyond my personal favorite, Twilight Princess, there are still some games missing from the collection.
List of Zelda Games Still Not on Switch 2

- Four Swords Adventures
- Twilight Princess
- Phantom Hourglass
- Spirit Tracks
- A Link Between Worlds
- Tri Force Heroes
Beyond the main Zelda games, there are several spin-offs and the updated version of The Wind Waker originally released for Wii U that are hard to play on today’s consoles. Fans are hoping the upcoming 40th anniversary of the Zelda series will bring news about these older titles coming to the Switch and the new Switch 2.
