Nintendo recently revealed that the mysterious short film, “Close to You,” was actually a teaser for the new *Pikmin* game. Fans had suspected a connection to the *Pikmin* series because the film used music from the games, and now those suspicions have been confirmed.
The *Pikmin* series began in 2001 and has had four main games released since then. The latest installment, *Pikmin 4*, came out in 2023 and was well-received by both critics and players. It has sold over three million copies, with Japan accounting for more than a third of those sales, making it the most popular game in the *Pikmin* series so far. Despite being a success, there are currently no plans for downloadable content (DLC).
Nintendo Confirms ‘Close to You’ Was All About Pikmin
Okay, so the new version of that “Close to You” short Nintendo put out is *definitely* a Pikmin teaser! Everyone was so confused by the original, you know, with the baby’s pacifier just floating around? Well, the updated version shows *all* the Pikmin causing the chaos! It’s so cool – now it all makes sense! They’re the ones messing with everything in the house. I can’t believe they kept it a secret for so long!
Okay, so that new teaser has everyone buzzing! Honestly, I’m torn between hoping it’s a reveal for *Pikmin 5* or finally some DLC for *Pikmin 4*. The teaser showed a house, and a lot of people think if it *is* DLC, it might take place mostly inside – which would be a cool change of pace since *Pikmin* games usually focus on outdoor gardens. *Pikmin 4* already introduced nighttime exploration, and I loved that, so I’d be thrilled to see them expand on that with DLC. We *did* get to go inside a house in *Pikmin 4*, but it wasn’t a huge part of the game, so a DLC focused on that could be really interesting!
The short video might also hint at a *Pikmin* movie, or perhaps a version of the game for the new Switch 2 console. There were rumors earlier this year that *Pikmin 4* could be enhanced for the Switch 2, but that hasn’t happened yet. Nintendo will hopefully share more details soon, as this announcement is definitely exciting news for *Pikmin* fans, especially with the recent success of *Pikmin 4*.
