I saw this really cool custom Switch dock cover online, and it’s totally inspired by Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream! This game has blown up recently – not just with Nintendo fans like me, but with anyone who loves those super chill, cozy games. I was so hyped for it because I’m a big fan of the Tomodachi Life series, and it’s been thirteen years since the last game came out! It was definitely a long wait, but it seems like it was worth it!
Players loved Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream because it let them create and share their own content, making the game endlessly replayable. Reviewers also praised its improved inclusivity compared to earlier versions, as well as its charming art style, extensive customization options, and funny interactions between the game’s characters, called Miis. This led fans to get really involved, creating all sorts of projects both inside and outside the game itself.
Fan-Made Switch Dock Cover Inspired by Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream
A Nintendo fan recently created a custom cover for their Switch dock, inspired by the game Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. The creator, rocketlab_design, shared a video on Instagram showing how they made a replica of the Fresh Kingdom supermarket, one of the buildings you can unlock in the game. They detailed the entire process, from 3D printing to attaching it to the dock, and confirmed it fits both the original Switch and the newer Switch 2 docks. They’ve also shared the design files on their MakerWorld account – a link can be found in the comments of their post.

The post quickly became popular with fans of the game, receiving around 12,000 likes. Many people commented that they’d like to see something similar for their Nintendo Switch. Others said the project proves that Nintendo’s latest life simulation game is still very popular and one of the best games released this year. Several commenters even requested the creator make more content featuring different areas within Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.
It’s not uncommon for video game fans to create custom covers for their Switch docks, and this project is just the latest example. Last year, someone showed off a 3D-printed dock cover inspired by Donkey Kong Bananza, and another fan received a *Stardew Valleythemed cover as a gift near the end of 2025. When popular games are released for both the original Switch and the Switch 2, it encourages players to not only enjoy the games themselves, but also to combine their enthusiasm with skills like 3D printing and hardware customization.

Even though Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream came out some time ago, it just got its first update at the end of April. Version 1.0.1 includes improvements to make the game run more smoothly. It’s still unclear if these changes will change how players feel about the game, or if Nintendo plans to release more updates in the future.
