The Switch 2 recently received updates to improve how well it plays older games, specifically fixing issues in five games originally released on the Switch 1. Nintendo has also acknowledged problems with several other older titles on the Switch 2 and plans to fix those issues soon.
Ever since Nintendo revealed its next console in January 2025, they’ve stated that the Switch 2 won’t be completely compatible with older games, though it will support many of them. The company explained that a few Switch titles might not function perfectly because of how they use the hardware. For example, Ring Fit Adventure requires a specific accessory that only works with the original Joy-Con controllers. Nintendo also noted that some older games might have unexpected problems on the new system, and fixing those issues could take time.
Switch 2 Now Fully Backward Compatible With Warframe and 4 More Games
Nintendo has released five more updates to improve how older games play on the console. These updates fix issues with Warframe, Deemo Reborn, Ultra Age, Library of Ruina, and Powerful Pro Baseball 2024-2025. With these fixes, all of these games should now work perfectly on the new Switch console. The updates were included in the Switch 2 20.5.0 update, which was released in late September 2025.
The 20.5.0 update is a small release and should download quickly-just a few seconds on a fast internet connection. The official patch notes don’t offer specifics about the new fixes for backward compatibility with the Switch 2-which is consistent with how Nintendo has handled updates for their consoles recently.
Along with this launch, Nintendo added notices to the eShop pages for several Switch games, letting players know about newly discovered compatibility issues on the Switch 2. A total of five games are affected: Jelly Troops, Transistor, Mugen Souls, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, and Subway Simulator 2025: City Train. Currently, only Jelly Troops is listed as not working on the Switch 2, due to some unknown issues with game progress.
New Nintendo Switch 2 Backward Compatibility Fixes for Switch 1 Games
- Deemo Reborn
- Library of Ruina
- Powerful Pro Baseball 2024-2025
- Ultra Age
- Warframe
So, there are four other games that seem to work on the Switch 2, but with a few things to watch out for. I heard that if you play Transistor, you really shouldn’t undock the console during certain parts, or it might not work right. Subway Simulator 2025: City Train apparently has some wonky animations, and people are saying Mugen Souls has trouble showing certain items after you get them. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning used to have issues with progressing through the game, which they’ve fixed, but there are still some visual glitches here and there. Nintendo is looking into all of these new problems and hopefully they’ll be able to fix them soon!
