Nintendo Game Vouchers Can’t Be Used On Switch 2

Summary

  • Nintendo Game Vouchers won’t work on Switch 2 exclusives, including the upcoming Mario Kart.
  • The vouchers were popular, offering discounted Nintendo and some third-party titles.
  • The system may be phased out for new promotions, but upcoming cross-gen games might still be redeemable.

It seems that Nintendo is moving away from one of its well-liked offers, as Game Vouchers will not function with exclusive games for the Switch 2.

The Nintendo Game Coupons system allows players to purchase a discounted ticket that can be exchanged for two games from the Eshop. This option is less expensive compared to buying each game individually at their full price, making it an appealing choice for enthusiasts who enjoy exclusive Nintendo titles.

The majority of the Game Voucher’s compatible titles are Nintendo games, but there are exceptions from third-party developers like PlatinumGames and Square Enix as well. Notably, it includes a good number of Pokemon games too.

Instead of using the Game Voucher system, it has been announced by Nintendo’s official website that it will no longer be compatible with exclusive games for the upcoming Switch 2 console.

Nintendo Game Vouchers Aren’t Cross-Gen

From my perspective as a gaming enthusiast, it’s important to note that codes or vouchers purchased may not grant access to games exclusive to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. However, this doesn’t seem to apply to titles released on both current and potential future systems. Games like Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends: Z-A are strong possibilities among these dual-system releases.

Contrarily, the new installment of Mario Kart hinted at in the initial Nintendo Switch 2 trailer won’t be included in any promotional deals.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve noticed some changes in my rewards system lately. It seems like Nintendo might be transitioning from older promotional offers to fresh ones, possibly explaining the reason behind the discontinuation of Gold Points.

For much of the Nintendo Switch’s life, the Game Vouchers system managed to maintain its popularity, even growing to include new titles such as the Xenoblade Chronicles X – Definitive Edition.

According to Nintendo’s announcement, the Switch 2 will support playing older games and they are preserving their Nintendo Account system. However, there could be some technical hurdles that might restrict simultaneous use of Game Vouchers across generations. Fans can expect more details when Nintendo hosts the Switch 2 Direct in April 2025.
