On June 5th, which is this coming Thursday, Nintendo’s new console, the Switch 2, is set to arrive at retail stores. Ahead of time, some customers who pre-ordered have been given their consoles early, but they won’t be able to play games on them until the official release date. This is because the console will require a necessary update on its first day of sale, which will activate its main functions. Additionally, Nintendo has already provided a digital version of the Switch 2 user manual for those who want to familiarize themselves with the device before use.

In a recent update, the digital version of the console’s user manual now includes a new cautionary note about the device’s screen. Nintendo, a leading name in gaming, has verified that the upcoming Switch 2 model arrives with a precautionary screen protector already attached. This protective layer is intended to minimize shattered glass fragments if the LCD panel on the Switch 2 were to crack. Users are strongly advised against peeling off this protective film under any circumstances. This recommendation can be found on page 3 of the manual, placed as the last point in the “Safe Usage” section located on the right-hand side.

Switch 2 Inherits Switch OLED Model’s Anti-Screen Fragmentation Protection

1. In the 2020s, this is the second time Nintendo has issued a warning like this. The Switch OLED Model of 2021 features a protective screen that users are advised not to remove. The instructions for the HEG-001 model in its manual are identical to those given for the Switch 2. Consumers Have a Tendency to Peel Off Things They’re Not Supposed To

In consumer electronics, it’s quite frequent to find anti-screen fracture layers, often leading to misuse. For example, in 2019, Samsung had to postpone the launch of their first foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, due to multiple reviewers unintentionally removing its protective film. This film was crucial for the device’s functionality, more so than in the Nintendo Switch OLED Model. The incident often made the Galaxy Fold unusable. Samsung later revised the phone to ensure the protective layer extended below the bezels, discouraging removal, and provided clearer instructions about its purpose in the packaging. Similar incidents of misuse regarding protective films were reported for some Apple Watch models, starting from the 2018 Series 4.
