Nintendo Is Saying They Are Currently Unable to Meet Demand for Switch 2

A day before North American retailers begin accepting pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo is surprised to find an overwhelming demand for the console, with interest significantly surpassing their initial expectations. In Japan, Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo, shared that they have stockpiled necessary materials and are already ramping up production ahead of schedule in order to meet the high demand. On April 2nd, they revealed details about the Nintendo Switch 2 and opened applications for a lottery sale on their My Nintendo Store. The response was astounding, with approximately 2.2 million applicants from Japan alone. However, this number far outstrips the number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles that will be available through the My Nintendo Store on June 5th. Consequently, it’s unfortunate that a substantial number of customers may not be chosen when the winners are announced on April 24th. The company had previously halted pre-orders after the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct.

Demand for the Nintendo Switch 2 is Sky High

For approximately eight years now, fans have eagerly awaited the debut of the long-anticipated successor to the Nintendo Switch. The announcement of its arrival earlier this year brought more relief than surprise among gamers, who were simply thrilled at last! However, there has been some apprehension regarding the potential cost of the new Nintendo Switch 2, specifically in relation to game prices; the thought of spending up to $90 on Mario Kart World has left a sour taste for many.

Regardless of Nintendo asserting that its hefty cost doesn’t stem from tariffs, there remains a massive enthusiasm among consumers eager to purchase the latest Nintendo console upon its release in June.

It is uncertain if the launch of Nintendo Switch 2 will result in supply shortage, similar to the original Nintendo Switch. Releasing a console during summer, when people are generally outdoors and on vacation, might benefit Nintendo. Given the high initial demand, getting a Nintendo Switch 2 on its release day could be a matter of good fortune.
