In a significant move, Nintendo is deepening its relationship with Major League Baseball’s Seattle Mariners prior to the 2025 Opening Day. The gaming giant has recently revealed an extended collaboration with the team, signifying that the distinctive red Nintendo logo will grace every Mariners jersey this season.
Nintendo’s bond with the Seattle Mariners stretches over three decades. In July 1992, this Japanese video game giant acquired a significant portion of the team, making it the first Major League Baseball franchise owned by a non-North American entity. This investment was instrumental in keeping the team in Seattle amidst league apprehensions. Throughout the years, Nintendo has left distinctive imprints on the Mariners’ home stadium, introducing fan-centric experiences such as the Nintendo Fan Network, allowing Nintendo DS users to access real-time game stats, scores, and even join trivia competitions during matches. In 2016, Nintendo of America disclosed that it was transferring its majority stake in the Mariners to other team owners. However, they retained a 10% stake, ensuring their enduring legacy.
On March 20th, MLB revealed that the Seattle Mariners would display the Nintendo racetrack logo on their home uniforms, while the Nintendo Switch 2 logo will be featured on their away jerseys. This makes them the first team in Major League Baseball to have distinct branding for home and away games. In a recent promotional video, Mariners centerfielder Julio Rodríguez showcased these revamped uniforms, with the Nintendo logo clearly visible on the sleeve. As per Nintendo’s announcement, this branding will be visible throughout the entire season, starting from March 27th when the Mariners play against the Oakland Athletics for their opening game of the season.
Seattle Mariners Unveil Nintendo Logo on Jerseys for 2025 Season
Currently, with Nintendo generating buzz for the upcoming launch of the Switch 2, they’re making a comeback in the baseball scene by prominently displaying their logo on the Seattle Mariners’ uniforms. This move not only acknowledges their enduring bond but also strategically keeps Nintendo’s name in public view as they gear up for a significant hardware release. Some enthusiasts are speculating that this renewed presence could mean the revival of a Mario Baseball game, a request from the gaming community that has been around for quite some time.

On April 2, 2025, Nintendo is scheduled to share more information about its future projects, such as the upcoming Switch 2, in a live broadcast known as Nintendo Direct. This event takes place at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET, only a few days following the Mariners’ opening game of the season. The anticipated details like pricing, launch date, and initial games will likely be unveiled during this presentation. It’s possible that Switch 2 pre-orders might become available immediately after the Nintendo Direct concludes; however, an alternate pre-order date could also be disclosed during the event itself.
