Nintendo Making Preparations To Stop Switch 2 Scalpers

It’s regrettable that, with today’s video games, some individuals purchase newly released consoles like the PlayStation 5 when stock is scarce, only to resell them at a higher price on the used market. This problem has been particularly prevalent during the console’s launch.

In 2017, when Nintendo launched the Switch, there was a significant scarcity of the device, causing a problem for resellers who bought consoles to sell them at inflated prices. To avoid a repeat of this situation with the upcoming Switch 2, Nintendo is taking all necessary steps to ensure adequate availability.

In a chat with Nikkei, Nintendo’s President Shuntaro Furukawa stated that they are taking all appropriate steps to guard against resellers (scalpers) and are readying themselves accordingly. This involves guaranteeing an adequate supply to match the predicted demand. Since the initial release of Switch 2 was set for 2024 but got postponed to enhance availability, Nintendo is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the Switch 2 consoles end up with legitimate buyers instead of resellers.

Analysts Are Predicting The Switch 2 Will Sell Over 20 Million Units In First Year

Hype for the Switch 2 is at an all-time high, as Nintendo’s Switch sales are slowing down.

Experts from various industries anticipate that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 might outperform its predecessor by selling more than 20 million units in just its first year. Such a sales figure would indeed be impressive, taking into account that the initial Nintendo Switch has managed to sell over 150 million units since it hit the market in 2017.

A key factor in making the Switch 2 successful is having a robust software collection at its debut. We already know there will be a new version of Mario Kart available when Switch 2 launches, and there’s even speculation about the possibility of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond being released across multiple platforms, just like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Apart from those rumors, there seems to be chatter about robust third-party backing for the upcoming Switch 2, but we’ve heard such promises before. The Nintendo lineup over the last couple of years has appeared rather sparse, leading fans to speculate that they might be saving their best games for the Switch 2, which some predict will launch later this year.
