As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for both Nintendo and LEGO, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming collaboration between these two iconic brands. Having grown up playing Mario Kart and Animal Crossing games, and spending countless hours building LEGO sets, this news is nothing short of a dream come true.

On January 1, 2025, Nintendo is set to launch new LEGO sets, inspired by “Mario Kart” and “Animal Crossing.” Back in 2020, they teamed up with LEGO for the first time, releasing a “Mario”-themed set as part of the “Super Mario Bros.” series’ 35th anniversary. Since then, these two companies have consistently collaborated on a variety of sets themed around the “Super Mario” universe, offering fans the chance to construct their own game levels.

It turns out that LEGO isn’t just working on Super Mario Bros., they’ve also teamed up with Nintendo to create LEGO sets based on other franchises, like Animal Crossing. The debut of the first Animal Crossing LEGO sets happened in March 2024, followed by additional ones in August. Characters such as Isabelle, Marshal, and Tom Nook, along with other villagers, can be found in these Animal Crossing sets. The partnership continues next year, as both Nintendo and LEGO have planned to launch new Mario Kart and Animal Crossing sets on New Year’s Day 2025.

On January 1, 2025, you can expect to find fresh collections for both “Mario Kart” and “Animal Crossing” in stores. In August, the initial unveiling of six “Mario Kart” LEGO sets took place, showcasing popular characters and vehicles from the series. For instance, the Standard Kart set offers Mario’s iconic Standard Kart, a Toad minifigure as part of the pit crew, assorted items, and a workbench. The most extensive and costly among these is the Baby Peach and Grand Prix Set, featuring three minifigures, karts, and an intricate racetrack layout.

  • Standard Kart – $19.99 (174 pieces)
  • Donkey Kong and DK Jumbo -$34.99 (387 pieces)
  • Baby Mario versus Baby Luigi – $29.99 (390 pieces)
  • Toad’s Garage – $39.99 (390 pieces)
  • Baby Peach & Grand Prix – $79.99 (823 pieces)

Animal Crossing

  • Stargazing with Celeste – $9.99 (75 pieces)
  • Leif’s Caravan & Garden Shop – $29.99 (263 pieces)
  • Able Sisters Clothing Shop – $39.99 (322 pieces)

LEGO unveiled its LEGO Animal Crossing collection in September, which includes Celeste, Leif, and the Able Sisters’ exclusive sets. The Celeste set revolves around stargazing, while Leif offers a mobile home and garden shop. Lastly, the Able Sisters oversee their textile shop. Among the trio of themed sets, the Able Sisters Clothing Shop is the largest and most costly. All three sets are slated for release on January 1, 2025.

Many Mario Kart playsets work well with large LEGO characters like Mario, Peach, and Luigi. These figures have unique interactions and sound effects when driving vehicles within these sets. For instance, Mario will respond differently when he drives over an item box. The Toad’s Garage set even includes a customizable car: by placing the LEGO Mario, Luigi, or Peach in the driver’s seat, you can modify the horn and engine sounds of the vehicle!
