Nintendo Reveals The Pre-Order Dates For Switch 2 In The US

Summary

  • Pre-order invites for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will resume on May 8, 2025.
  • Invites will be sent directly to Nintendo Account holders to combat scalpers.
  • It’s unclear if ongoing tariff disputes will affect the June 5 release date.

As an enthusiastic supporter, I’ve been eagerly waiting for updates on the pre-orders of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Despite a temporary hold due to the ongoing tariff disagreement, Nintendo has finally announced the resumption date for these pre-orders and will be extending invitations directly to fans like me. I can hardly contain my excitement!

The release of the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, along with many other popular electronic games like dice or children’s card games, has been marred by scalpers who swiftly purchase stock using automated bots in order to resell them at inflated prices on secondary markets. Nintendo is taking steps to counter this issue by extending invitations for direct purchases of the upcoming Switch 2 to Nintendo Account holders.

Regrettably, Nintendo finds itself launching the Switch 2 at a time when President Donald Trump’s tariff disagreements with China and Vietnam are ongoing. This situation has led to an indefinite halt on pre-orders within the USA. As per the official Nintendo website, a fresh date has been scheduled for direct pre-orders.

Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Invites Will Be Sent Out On May 8

On Nintendo’s updated FAQ page for Switch 2, it has been confirmed that the initial wave of pre-order invitations will be distributed on May 8, 2025. Further invitations will be sent out later, and these will be handled individually.

In order to be eligible for the pre-order invitation, gamers need to fulfill two conditions: firstly, they must have been subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online for at least twelve months, and secondly, they should either have shared their gameplay data or accumulated a minimum of fifty hours of gameplay. This is done to keep scalpers from creating multiple accounts en masse in an attempt to secure invitations.

It remains uncertain if the tariff disagreement will persist, potentially leading to further postponements. However, Nintendo appears confident that the Switch 2 will stick to its June 5 launch date. Yet, considering the ongoing global uncertainty, it’s unclear if this release can be maintained in the U.S., especially without raising the price.
