As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, the prospect of Battlefield gracing the Nintendo Switch 2 is nothing short of exhilarating! I’ve been through countless console generations and witnessed the evolution of this iconic franchise on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

According to a high-ranking representative from Respawn Entertainment, there’s a possibility that the Battlefield series could potentially be introduced on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. However, they haven’t made any definite plans regarding this new console yet.

Even though Nintendo hasn’t officially unveiled its upcoming console yet, some game developers and publishers have already begun announcing titles for it. One of the earliest confirmations came from Wiggin Industries, a Spanish studio, who revealed that their role-playing game similar to Persona, titled Bestiario, will be available on the Switch 2 as early as February 2024.

Respawn Boss Is ‘Absolutely’ Open to Battlefield on Nintendo Switch 2

Regarding Nintendo’s upcoming console, Respawn Entertainment has not disclosed any specific plans at this time. When asked about potential plans for Battlefield on the Switch 2, CEO Vince Zampella told IGN he couldn’t comment on an unannounced system. However, Zampella expressed interest in the possibility of having the Battlefield series on the new console and praised Nintendo as a fantastic collaborator.

No Battlefield Game Has Yet Been Ported to a Nintendo Console

Moving forward with a fresh “Battlefield” game for Switch would be an impressive landmark in the 22-year history of the popular first-person shooter series, launched on September 10. Remarkably, despite numerous mainline releases across the last two decades, this franchise has yet to appear on a Nintendo platform. Historically, it has been exclusive to PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC systems.

It seems highly unlikely that Respawn Entertainment will introduce its popular Battlefield series to the Nintendo Switch successor anytime soon, given the historical focus of Battlefield on graphical superiority and Nintendo’s lack of participation in the console spec race since the GameCube era. Instead, it might be more feasible for Respawn to introduce older Battlefield series entries on Nintendo systems if they decide to make a move at all.

Although EA’s subsidiary has yet to reveal its plans for the device, certain smaller companies within the gaming industry are expressing enthusiasm by committing to Nintendo’s upcoming console. The latest studio to make this pledge is Pathea Games, a Chinese developer that recently unveiled their life sim RPG titled “My Time at Evershine,” which they plan to release on the Switch 2. At present, experts anticipate that the console will be launched in Q2 2025. However, recent developments such as Nintendo’s decision to skip a traditional September game showcase and emerging rumors hint that the unveiling of the Switch 2 could occur within the coming weeks, possibly as early as October 2024.
