Ten Nintendo Switch games have been updated to work better on the new Switch 2 console. These fixes address problems some players were having and were released with a system update for the Switch 2 on December 8th.
A great feature of Nintendo’s newest system is that it can play games from older consoles. Many fans were excited about this, as the original Switch couldn’t play physical Wii U games because it used game cards instead of discs. With the new system, players can enjoy a lot of classic games from a beloved era of Nintendo consoles. While this feature lets people play their existing Switch games on the updated hardware, it hasn’t been without a few problems.
Latest Switch Compatibility Fixes for Switch 2
- Blade of Darkness
- Game Dev Story
- Little Nightmares Complete Edition
- Miitopia
- Moji Yuugi
- Resident Evil 4
- Solid Void – Nature Puzzles
- Sports Party
- Streets of Rage 4
- Venture Towns
Nintendo is still working to ensure older Switch games play well on the new Switch 2 console, and they’ve recently released an update to address issues with ten titles. This update includes improvements for popular games like Resident Evil 4 and Miitopia, as well as Blade of Darkness, Game Dev Story, Little Nightmares: Complete Edition, Moji Yuugi, Solid Void – Nature Puzzles, Sports Party, Streets of Rage 4, and Venture Towns. While the specific changes aren’t detailed, these games should now run more smoothly on the Switch 2.
Image via Nintendo As a Switch fan, I’ve been following the Switch 2 backwards compatibility news closely, and it’s cool to see Nintendo working hard to make older games play well. It’s not perfect yet – some games still need a little tweaking. I remember Nintendo even flagged A Hat in Time because of some issues with getting through the game. But the good news is they’re constantly releasing updates! Just recently, they fixed a bunch more titles, and back in October, they even improved Warframe on the new system. They’ve been releasing fixes for games in all sorts of genres, and I’m optimistic the number of fully supported games will keep growing in the coming weeks.
The Switch already has a huge library of great games, and being able to play those games on a new Switch 2 is a big draw. While not every older game works perfectly, the Switch 2 is now the best way to experience them. The upgraded hardware makes games like Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom run much more smoothly. Plus, Nintendo has released updated versions of popular games for the Switch 2, adding new features and making them look even better. Standout examples include Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which now run at a smoother 60 frames per second with a higher resolution.
Switch 2 Continues to Get New Games
So, everyone’s still playing Switch games on the new Switch 2, and more and more new titles are coming out for it. I finally got my hands on Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on December 4th, and it’s a brand new 3D adventure with Samus Aran. It looks way better on the Switch 2, honestly, but the reviews have been kinda mixed – not as amazing as the other Metroid Prime games. If you’re a Metroid fan and Beyond doesn’t quite hit the spot, you can always go back and play Metroid Prime Remastered on the original Switch. That one’s a classic and got a 94 on OpenCritic, so it’s definitely worth checking out!
Everyone is eager to find out what Nintendo has in store for the Switch 2, expected in 2026. Although the original Switch was a big hit, it wasn’t without its problems – some players were unhappy with the price, for example. Since Nintendo hasn’t revealed many games for the Switch 2 yet, we can likely expect more announcements soon.
