Nintendo Switch 2 Is Missing a Huge Opportunity If It Ignores This Fan-Favorite Franchise!

Following the massive success of the Nintendo Switch in 2017, Nintendo is preparing to repeat history with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Rather than making a drastic change, they’re planning to offer a familiar experience, but with some intriguing new features. The prospect is thrilling, and games like Mario Kart World appear to be compelling launch titles. However, it seems like a missed opportunity if they exclude the engaging Nintendo Switch Sports from the lineup. While it might be an incredible next step for the studio, leaving out Nintendo Switch Sports could mean missing out on potential revenue.

As a gaming enthusiast, I remember how Wii Sports truly shaped the Wii era, and Wii Sports Resort pushed those boundaries even further. Unfortunately, during the Wii U timeframe, we never quite got that same level of experience with Wii Sports Club. It didn’t leave a lasting impression like its predecessor did. However, it wasn’t until 2022 on the Nintendo Switch that they finally delivered the next chapter with Nintendo Switch Sports – which has become one of the console’s top-selling games. But it fell short of being the defining title that Wii Sports once was. Now, as we look towards the future and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, I hope Nintendo learns from their past mistakes and we eagerly anticipate the release of Nintendo Switch Sports 2.

Nintendo Switch Sports Deserves Its Chance to Shine

Wii Sports Release Was Perfectly Timed

As a gamer, I can’t forget the incredible impact that Wii Sports made when it first hit the scene, coming packaged with every Wii console at launch. That meant nearly every Wii owner got a taste of its unique charm right out of the box! It was like the perfect ambassador for our new motion control tech, and the easy-to-grasp yet exhilarating gameplay immediately captured everyone’s attention.

Not only did it become Nintendo’s best-selling video game ever, but it also took the third spot among all video games sold of all time! And to top it off, Wii Sports even spawned a sequel in Wii Sports Resort, which elevated the concept to new heights and continued its streak of massive commercial success.

Fans adored the idea behind the game Wii Sports, prompting Nintendo to broaden the series across both the Wii U and Nintendo Switch platforms. Unlike the initial game, these subsequent titles did not debut as console launch games nor were they included with the consoles. It wasn’t until two years following the Wii U’s release that Wii Sports Club was unveiled, and five years after the Nintendo Switch’s launch before Nintendo Switch Sports hit the market. Although Nintendo Switch Sports was successful for the studio, it didn’t quite match the original game’s popularity.

Nintendo Switch 2 Could Finally Deliver On Nintendo Switch Sports Promise

With the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo could replicate the success of the original Wii Sports game. Although it’s unlikely that the game will be a launch title for the console, if it’s not, it should be released as soon as feasible after the console launch. Fans shouldn’t have to wait several years to enjoy the next Nintendo Switch Sports, and with the new hardware, the game could offer something truly exceptional.

Fortunately, the game “Nintendo Switch Sports” is compatible with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, albeit with certain constraints given the smaller size of the Joy-Con 2 controllers. This means that from day one, you’ll be able to enjoy a variety of sports. However, many fans may anticipate further advancements in the brand. Here’s hoping that Nintendo is indeed working on something new, as it would be a significant oversight not to do so. For now, we can only wait and find out.
