On June 5th, the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to make its grand debut, offering fans two distinct editions to select from. Back in January 2025, Nintendo hinted at the Switch 2, leaving some aspects shrouded in mystery. As promised, they delivered all the details during a dedicated April 2nd Nintendo Direct presentation, addressing every question that had been lingering.
The special hour-long event, known as the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, unveiled a plethora of unexpected revelations about the upcoming next-generation console. Notably, FromSoftware is developing an exclusive game for the Switch 2, there are plans for a new 3D platformer in the Donkey Kong series, and much more. Furthermore, details about the launch date and price point of the Switch 2 were also disclosed.
It’s been officially confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to hit stores on June 5, 2025, priced at $449.99 for the standalone console and $499.99 for a bundle that includes Mario Kart World. This aligns with expectations of many industry analysts prior to Nintendo’s formal announcement. The pre-order availability may differ across retailers, but it appears the console won’t be available until April 9. Keep in mind that the Mario Kart World bundle will only be offered for a limited period, so if you’re interested, you should secure it by fall 2025.

Nintendo has hinted that it has strategies ready for handling scalpers, leading some to speculate that there might be more Switch 2 consoles in production than initially thought. However, it’s still unclear whether this is true or if the demand for the Switch 2 will outpace its supply on release day, making it scarce immediately after launch. As with any new console release, securing a Switch 2 might be challenging at first, so anyone keen on getting one should consider pre-ordering as soon as the opportunity arises.

If Nintendo can manage supply effectively, the Switch 2 is likely to be the must-have item during this upcoming holiday season. Nintendo has unveiled several intriguing games scheduled for release on the Switch 2 in 2023, such as “Kirby Air Riders” and “Donkey Kong Bananza”, with the latter set to debut approximately a month following its launch, on July 17th.
