Currently, the inaugural Nintendo Treehouse livestream for the potential Nintendo Switch 2 is underway, and fan response has been vocal about the pricing of the console and its associated games.
121,000 individuals are tuned in to the live stream on the official Nintendo of America YouTube channel at this very moment, and there’s a chorus of complaints from various people expressing dissatisfaction over the console and game costs.
Vast majority of my comments while watching the stream are centered around one request: ‘Could we lower the price?’ Occasionally, I might throw in some thoughts about the content itself, but it’s mostly about the cost.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will be priced at approximately $450 for gamers, and its games are set to increase from $70 to around $80. However, in certain regions like Spain, a physical game may cost as much as 90 euros, which equates to about $99.91 in U.S. dollars at the current exchange rate.
Increasing prices by Nintendo is likely to establish a trend among other publishers, potentially leading to standard $80 game prices by the end of this year.
This morning, Argos, a British retailer, unexpectedly started accepting pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 before the global April 9 pre-order date. The stock was quickly depleted within hours. The basic unit was available for £395.99, and the MK bundle cost £429.99 at Argos.
To pre-order from Nintendo directly, the company is implementing a new strategy to curb scalpers by requiring potential buyers to fulfill specific criteria. As stated by the company, individuals interested in pre-ordering must be active members of Nintendo Switch Online for a minimum of two years uninterrupted by March 31, 2025. Moreover, users are expected to have spent a specific amount of time playing on their console, with priority being given to those who have invested more time. At this point, it remains undetermined how other retailers will address the issue of scalping.
