Which Accessories Are Compatible With Nintendo Switch 2?

Based on what the Nintendo Blog has shared, it appears that the upcoming Switch 2 is expected to be compatible with many currently available Nintendo Switch accessories. This means that popular controllers such as Joy-Cons and Pro Controllers should function seamlessly on the new system. This spares you from having to purchase an additional $80 Pro controller if you already have one of these. However, it’s important to note that this compatibility is primarily for official Nintendo Switch accessories. Third-party products like those from brands such as 8BitDo and PowerA might work intermittently depending on the specific accessory.

Here Is the Full List of Accessories Compatible With the Switch 2

  • Joy-Con controllers
  • Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
  • Nintendo Entertainment System Controller
  • Super Nintendo Entertainment System Controller
  • Nintendo 64 Controller
  • SEGA Genesis Control Pad
  • Nintendo GameCube Controller Adapter

you’ll need a charging stand (either a Switch or Joy-Con one) to recharge the Joy-Cons because they won’t fit into the new Switch 2 dock. On the other hand, the Pro Controller can be charged directly from the USB cable connected to the new Switch 2 dock. This rule also applies to older controllers like NES and Nintendo 64 ones.

It’s important to note that not all accessories designed for the original Nintendo Switch are compatible with the Switch 2. For instance, if you have multiple setups in different rooms and rely on the Nintendo Switch Dock, it might be a letdown because of its limitations. Although this won’t deter most users, as the Switch 2 comes with its own dock, a more significant concern is that older microSD cards will not work. Nintendo has clarified that the Switch 2 is designed to only accept microSD Express cards. Furthermore, with the upgrade to 4K at 120Hz, gamers should note that they’ll require HDMI 2.1-compatible cables for docking purposes.
