Prior to the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5th, there have been updates to the official Nintendo Switch Online app, now known as the Nintendo Switch App. This update also includes support for the eagerly awaited console, enabling users to receive GameChat invitations while playing games with their friends on the Switch 2, directly from within the app.
In April, Nintendo announced that they will rename their Switch Online app in an upcoming update and introduce compatibility with several upcoming Switch 2 games. Users can continue using voice chat while playing games on the original Switch, but numerous new features have been added to facilitate a smooth transition. As the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 is imminent (one week away), players are excited to try out the new hardware and the app has been updated and prepared for use from day one.
Based on IGN’s report, regular users of the Nintendo Switch mobile app might observe significant changes starting today. The app has been renamed as the Nintendo Switch App, and with update 3.0.1 comes a sleeker design for smoother navigation. One of the most notable additions is its compatibility with the GameChat feature of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Users can now effortlessly accept invitations from friends and manage their friend lists within the app. Furthermore, it’s now more straightforward for users to handle their captured screenshots and videos, as these can be uploaded directly to the Nintendo Switch App. The patch notes suggest that some minor enhancements have been made, along with the resolution of several bugs.
The next-generation Nintendo Switch, referred to as the Switch 2, promises significant upgrades compared to its predecessor. It supports 4K resolution, sports a larger screen, and offers 256GB of storage – that’s eight times more than the original console’s 32GB. High Dynamic Range (HDR) will be compatible with suitable games, while variable refresh rates will ensure smoother visuals. Additionally, the Joy-Con 2 controllers will include mouse functionality in select titles, enhancing gameplay experiences.
On June 5th, at least two dozen games will be accessible for the Switch 2 upon its release, featuring titles like “Mario Kart World”, “Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition”, “Hogwarts Legacy”, and “Sonic X Shadow Generations”. In the upcoming months, enthusiasts can anticipate the long-awaited releases of “Donkey Kong Bananza”, as well as “Kirby Air Riders” and “Pokemon Legends: Z-A”, which has now unveiled its release date of October 16th. For those eager to explore the Switch 2 versions of both “Zelda” games, they can do so right from launch day, and even make use of the new Zelda Notes app while delving into “Breath of the Wild” and “Tears of the Kingdom”.
