Players with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership and a Switch 2 console will be able to play Luigi’s Mansion from the GameCube soon! Nintendo announced the game will be added to the Nintendo Switch Online GameCube app on October 30th, the day before Halloween.
Originally released in 2001 as a launch game for the GameCube, Luigi’s Mansion is a unique entry in the Super Mario series because it stars Luigi as the main character. The game’s story begins when Luigi wins a mansion in a contest he didn’t even enter, only to find Mario has disappeared inside the haunted house. With the help of Professor E. Gadd and a special vacuum cleaner called the Poltergust 3000, Luigi must explore the spooky mansion, capture ghosts, and overcome other supernatural dangers. A remastered version of Luigi’s Mansion was also released for the Nintendo 3DS in October 2018.
Luigi’s Mansion Is Finally Coming to Nintendo Switch Online
- Launches Thursday, October 30
Just in time for Halloween, fans with a Nintendo Switch will soon be able to play the classic ghost-hunting game, Luigi’s Mansion, originally released on the GameCube. The game will be added to the Nintendo GameCube: Nintendo Classics app on Switch through an update on October 30th. However, you’ll need a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack membership ($50/year before taxes) to access it. Nintendo has released a trailer showing how the game will look on the Switch. With this addition, Switch owners can play all three Luigi’s Mansion games on a single system. While Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD and Luigi’s Mansion 3 were created for the original Switch, they’re also playable on the newer Switch console thanks to its backward compatibility.
With the recent launch of the Switch 2, Nintendo is continuing to expand the GameCube game library available through Switch Online. The spooky adventure Luigi’s Mansion is the sixth GameCube title to be added, joining previously announced games like Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. This update comes just two months after Chibi-Robo! Plug Into Adventure! was added to the service.
Nintendo is adding Luigi’s Mansion to its Switch Online service in October, following the surprise release of three SNES games earlier this month. It’s currently unknown when more GameCube games will become available for players.
