Nintendo Switch Online is offering a new free trial! For seven days, people who aren’t already members can experience the service. This is great news, especially for those who have tried free trials before, as it gives them another chance to enjoy everything Nintendo Switch Online has to offer.
Nintendo Switch Online has grown a lot since it launched in 2018. It started with just classic NES games, but now includes titles from the SNES and Game Boy. In 2021, the Expansion Pack was added, bringing games from the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and even GameCube. With these games, plus features like online multiplayer and a music player, the service is popular among Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 owners. A basic subscription costs $19.99 a year, while the Expansion Pack costs $49.99, but Nintendo is currently offering a promotion that lets players try the service before committing to a purchase.
Nintendo Switch Online Gets New 7-Day Free Trial to Start 2026
Nintendo of America announced a free trial for Nintendo Switch Online on January 12th. Switch and Switch 2 owners can try out the service for seven days to see what it offers. Keep in mind this trial doesn’t include the Expansion Pack, so you won’t have access to all games and downloadable content. Nintendo hasn’t said when this promotion will end.
Nintendo Switch Online Features
- Online Play
- GameChat
- Nintendo Classics
- Nintendo Music
- Save Data Cloud
- Special Offers
Good news for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 owners without an existing Nintendo Switch Online membership: you can sign up for a free trial! Even if you’ve used a free trial before, you’re eligible for this new offer. While you won’t have access to games that require the Expansion Pack, the basic Nintendo Switch Online tier includes a great selection of classic games from the SNES, Game Boy, and NES – perfect for a trip down memory lane. Plus, the seven-day trial lets you play games like Mario Kart World online, and you can download the Nintendo Music app to enjoy a wide variety of tracks.
When you start a free trial of Nintendo Switch Online on the official website or eShop, your subscription will automatically renew. But if you decide it’s not for you, canceling is simple. Just go to Account Information on the eShop or through your Nintendo Account, and you’ll find an option to turn off automatic renewal.
Nintendo Switch Online and Its Expansion Pack Continue to Get New Games
Nintendo Switch Online recently added Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance to the service as a surprise release, available as part of the Expansion Pack. This expands the growing selection of GameCube games available through the service. Last November, Nintendo also added new games for Game Boy and NES to the base subscription, including Of Myths and Monsters, which continues the story of the original Kid Icarus.
Now that the Switch 2 is out, NSO is unsurprisingly adding more GameCube games. We can expect to see classic titles from the 2001 console released throughout the year, including Super Mario Sunshine, Pokemon Colosseum, and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. Beyond GameCube, NSO will likely add games from other classic consoles in the coming months. It will be exciting to see what further updates are planned for the service in 2026.
