Nintendo Switch Online is Adding 2 More N64 Games This Month

Nintendo Switch Online members will get two new games to play in mid-December: Rayman 2: The Great Escape and Tonic Trouble. Both are 3D platforming games made by Ubisoft and will only be available to those with a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack membership.

Nintendo regularly adds classic games to its online service for subscribers, drawing from systems like the NES and GameCube. With the upcoming additions of Rayman and Tonic Trouble, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members in North America will have access to 42 Nintendo 64 games. This library includes popular titles like Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, as well as more mature games like Forsaken 64 and Perfect Dark. In North America, Perfect Dark and Forsaken 64 are only available through a separate app called Nintendo 64 Mature 17+, which can be downloaded in supported regions worldwide.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers will get access to two new N64 games starting December 17th: Rayman 2: The Great Escape and Tonic Trouble. Rayman 2, originally released in Europe in October 1999 and North America in November 1999, is a highly-regarded platformer starring Ubisoft’s Rayman. It was the first 3D installment in the series and is known for its fun gameplay and unique graphics. The story follows Rayman as he defends the Glade of Dreams from the pirate Admiral Razorbeard and rescues his friend, Globox, who has been captured by Razorbeard’s crew.

Released on the N64 in August 1999, just before Rayman 2, Tonic Trouble is a 3D platformer where you play as Ed, a purple alien. Ed accidentally causes Earth to mutate when he spills a strange liquid while cleaning his spaceship. This liquid contaminates the planet’s water, giving the villain, Grogh, superpowers and allowing him to begin his conquest. Players on Switch 2, like with other N64 games on the Switch Online service, can enjoy features like rewind and CRT filters when playing Tonic Trouble and Rayman 2.

The End of a Busy Fall Season for Nintendo Classics

Nintendo Switch Online members can look forward to two more games – Rayman 2: The Great Escape and Tonic Trouble – which are expected to wrap up a packed autumn season. Just last week, on November 25th, Nintendo unexpectedly added Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters and Battletoads for NES and Game Boy. Earlier, subscribers got to play Luigi’s Mansion on GameCube during Halloween, and in early October, the SNES app gained Mario and Wario, Fatal Fury Special, and Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind.

Despite the Nintendo 64 app gaining more games, some popular titles like Super Smash Bros. and Donkey Kong 64 aren’t yet available. It’s still unclear what new games Nintendo will add for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers in the next year, especially with 2026 approaching.
