Nintendo Switch Online Is Adding Another GameCube Title

On August 12th, it was announced that the original game in the Chibi-Robo series, titled “Chibi-Robo! Plug Into Adventure!”, will become available on the Nintendo Classics app for GameCube on August 21st. This marks the fifth GameCube title to join the expanding collection, providing an additional treat for users with the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack.

Initially launched in Japan in June 2005 and arriving in the West in February 2006, Chibi-Robo emerged as a platformer game featuring a small, battery-powered toy robot as its protagonist. The primary objective of the game is to amass Happy Points, which can be earned by performing various chores around the Sanderson household, such as cleaning. Chibi-Robo later spawned sequels on the Nintendo DS and was revamped for the Wii in 2009. Despite the Chibi-Robo series being currently inactive, its original creators have since developed an independent successor named koROBO as a Kickstarter project.

Chibi-Robo Is Coming To The Switch 2’s GameCube Collection

  • Launches Thursday, August 21

Approximately one month following the release of “Super Mario Strikers” on the Nintendo Classics app for GameCube, Nintendo Switch 2 owners will gain access to another “Chibi-Robo! Plug Into Adventure!” This game is set to launch on August 21, but it will only be available to subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online who have upgraded to the Expansion Pack. With this latest addition, “Chibi-Robo” becomes the fifth GameCube title to join the Nintendo Classics collection, making it the sole game being added in August. To play “Chibi-Robo”, Switch 2 users will need an internet connection to download an app update for their console, which will then allow them to play the game.

During the April 2nd Nintendo Direct, it was officially announced that Chibi-Robo would be included in the lineup of GameCube games for the Switch 2. Other titles like Pokemon Colosseum were also mentioned in this announcement. Notably, Chibi-Robo will mark the first 3D platformer on the GameCube app, although other Nintendo favorites such as Super Mario Sunshine are yet to be released on the service. As of now, Nintendo has not specified when further updates to the GameCube app will take place, so fans should stay attentive for more details in the future.

Although Chibi-Robo isn’t as famous as other Nintendo series, its distinctive gameplay and endearing qualities have made it a valuable addition to the GameCube Nintendo Classic library. It remains to be seen which GameCube titles will be added to the app in forthcoming updates.
