Nintendo Switch Online Shadowdrops Three SNES Games

Okay, so Nintendo Switch Online just dropped a surprise on us! They added three new SNES games out of nowhere. The biggest deal for me is finally getting to play *Mario and Wario* – it’s the first time it’s been officially released outside of Japan, which is awesome! They also added *Fatal Fury Special* and, uh, *Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind*. Yeah, the very first *Bubsy* game. It’s a pretty random mix, but hey, more games to play with my subscription!

As a Nintendo Switch Online member, I always get excited when they drop new retro games! Every few weeks, Nintendo adds titles from classic consoles like the NES, SNES, and Game Boy to their apps. Right now, the SNES app has 77 games, just a couple less than the NES app which has 79. The last big update for SNES games was back in July, and they added *Mario Paint*, which was awesome. What’s really cool about *Mario Paint* is it was the first game on the service that let you use a mouse – you can either use two Joy-Cons together as a mouse, or even plug in a USB mouse!

Nintendo Switch Online Releases Three New SNES Games

  • Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind
  • Fatal Fury Special
  • Mario and Wario

Switch Online members will get three new games to play after a small update to the SNES: Nintendo Classics app on October 8th. The biggest addition is *Mario and Wario*, a puzzle game first released in Japan in 1993. In this game, Wario plays the villain, tricking Mario by putting a cracked eggshell on his head, blocking his vision. Players control a fairy, using objects and obstacles to help Mario reach Luigi. Like *Mario Paint*, *Mario and Wario* is best played with a mouse. To prepare for this release, the app was updated to add mouse support for other games too, including *Nobunaga’s Ambition* and *Mario’s Super Picross*.

The October 8th update for Nintendo Switch Online adds two more classic games. Players can now enjoy the original *Bubsy* game, *Bubsy in: Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind*. This comes just a month after Atari released *Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection*, which includes multiple *Bubsy* games for both SNES and Genesis. Rounding out the new additions is *Fatal Fury Special*, a fighting game from SNK released in 1993.

Fatal Fury Special is an enhanced version of Fatal Fury 2, made available on the Nintendo Classics app for Switch Online in January 2025. As Nintendo continues to add games for its Switch Online subscribers, it remains to be seen what their future plans are for the service.
