Nintendo’s Recent Rebrand Has Kirby Fans Hoping for a Movie

Nintendo recently changed the name of Warpstar Inc., the organization that oversees the Kirby character’s intellectual property rights, leading fans to speculate about potential plans for a Kirby movie. In recent times, the Japanese game company has made efforts to highlight their puffball hero, even arranging a special Direct presentation to discuss upcoming releases featuring Kirby.

Refreshing the identities and streamlining structures of its subsidiaries isn’t an unfamiliar approach for Nintendo; they’ve done it plenty of times in the past. Yet, this current business transformation seems to carry a greater weight compared to some of their past reform initiatives, perhaps due to the strategic timing involved.

Nintendo’s Subsidiary Reformation Could Hint at a Kirby Movie

On August 27, 2025, Nintendo confirmed that Warpstar Inc. would be renamed to Nintendo Stars Inc., signifying a rebranding. This transformation will expand the company’s duties to encompass the operation, licensing, and management of tie-ins related to Nintendo’s intellectual properties (IP). In essence, Nintendo Stars Inc. will now oversee events, products, and partnerships for films featuring Nintendo characters.

Given Warpstar’s history of managing Kirby-related projects such as “Kirby: Right Back at Ya!”, the name change has sparked speculation among fans about an upcoming Kirby movie. The hypothesis is further bolstered by the fact that the rebranded subsidiary will still maintain control over the Kirby franchise, despite its new focus on films.

Nintendo has experienced significant triumphs following the success of the animated “Super Mario Bros.” movie, prompting the company to announce further adaptations. Currently, a live-action “Legend of Zelda” film is under development, and a sequel to the “Super Mario Bros.” animated film is slated for release in April 2026. Moreover, whispers of a “Donkey Kong” movie have surfaced, fueling speculation about a potential “Kirby” film as well. Fans speculate that Nintendo aims to broaden its core intellectual properties beyond games, with many viewing “Kirby” as a franchise with significant potential for success in other media forms.

The latest announcement confirms that Nintendo has taken over full ownership of Nintendo Stars Inc., previously a shared venture between Nintendo and HAL Laboratory. In April 2025, Nintendo bought out all shares of Warpstar Inc., now known as Nintendo Stars, making it part of its consolidated companies. Prior to this acquisition, Nintendo Stars had been co-owned by Nintendo and HAL Laboratory, who are renowned for their work on popular Kirby games.

In the upcoming weeks, it will be intriguing to find out if any fan speculations about a potential Kirby movie become reality. However, given Nintendo’s tendency towards secrecy, fans might have to be patient for any official updates regarding the pink hero’s cinematic adventure, assuming one is being developed at all.
