While exploring the large world of Nioh 3, players will often encounter locked doors that block their path. This can be annoying, leaving you unsure where to go or preventing you from fully exploring an area.
Take the locked door at Hamamatsu Hill, for example – it needs a key to unlock. With Nioh 3’s big maps, spending ages hunting for that key sounds awful, and honestly, who could blame you if you didn’t want to?

How to Get the Hamamatsu Hill Key in Nioh 3
You need to progress further in the story before you can get the key to enter the Hamamatsu Hill base. If you can’t open the door, it just means you haven’t reached the right part of the main quest yet.
You’ll get the Hamamatsu Hill key—also known as the “Mountain Temple Key”—by finishing the Fated Land quest at Ryotan Temple. After completing the quest, Li Naotora will return to Hamamatsu Castle where you can talk to her. She’ll give you the key during the conversation, which will also start a new quest called “Li’s Memento.”
The Li’s Memento quest sends you back to the enemy base on Hamamatsu Hill. You’ll use the Mountain Temple Key to open the gate and then defeat five Yokai inside, restoring the base to its original state.
Once you’ve beaten all five Yokai, go to the top of the enemy base and defeat the Revenant you find there. This Revenant is a tougher opponent than those you’ve faced at Bloody Graves, so make sure you’re ready for a challenging fight!
After you clear this enemy base, you’ll improve your exploration progress in the Hamamatsu Hill area, getting you closer to 100% game completion.
To finish Li’s Memento quest, quickly travel back to Hamamatsu Castle and talk to Li Naotora. You’ll receive rewards for completing it.
Li’s Memento Quest Rewards
After finishing the ‘Li’s Memento’ quest – which involves clearing the enemy base at Hamamatsu Hill and talking to Li Naotora – you’ll receive the Samurai’s Locks and Sincere Buddha’s Gauntlets as a reward.
Collecting Samurai’s Locks lets you learn new Martial Arts moves, giving you more options for combat combos. Also, the Sincere Buddha’s Gauntlets are really good armor to have right now, so equip them whenever you get the chance!
Finishing the ‘Li’s Memento’ quest in Nioh 3 unlocks extra side quests with even better rewards. You’ve still got a lot more to do before you finish the game, so keep playing!
