No Man’s Sky has kicked off 2025 with a huge new update called Worlds Part II, which is available now.
You can watch the new trailer below, and find a complete list of updates on the official blog here: [link].
First, the trailer:
Sean Murray has dropped a statement about the new update, which you can check out, below:
We’re incredibly passionate about No Man’s Sky, and last year’s Worlds Part I felt like just the first step. We’re excited to share what we’ve been building! The next update, Worlds Part II, will add even more to the game, including new solar systems, more diverse planets and landscapes, massive Gas Giants, and plenty of new adventures to experience.
Worlds Part II allows us to push the boundaries of our engine with new technology.
We’re massively expanding the game with billions of new solar systems and trillions of planets, and adding diverse new environments – all while preserving the core elements players already enjoy. It’s grown far beyond our original vision for the game.
I’ve been developing a new terrain system recently. It creates much more detailed and diverse landscapes, including huge mountains and other impressive features. I really enjoy working on this – it’s what I’m most passionate about.
The team is working incredibly hard on Light No Fire. Whenever we make progress with our engine, we’re eager to share it with the No Man’s Sky community.
Gas giants are incredibly large planets, about ten times the size of our own. Exploring them is a huge challenge, as they feature massive and powerful storms.

Okay, so the ocean in this game is seriously next-level now. They’ve made it so the oceans can be miles deep, and the new lighting system completely changes how it looks. They’ve got realistic light beams shining down, and the deeper you go, the darker and more mysterious it gets. Honestly, the best part is exploring and then suddenly seeing some massive creature appear out of the darkness – it’s a genuinely incredible feeling!
We’ve completely revamped our lighting system. You’ll notice richer details in shadows, realistic light filtering through foliage, and truly immersive, dark caves. We’ve also made oceans more lifelike – they now beautifully reflect clouds and stars, creating stunning sunsets and night skies.
Water is constantly affected by its surroundings. Animals move through it, and even gentle rain creates small ripples. Larger disturbances, like ships passing by, create waves. It’s often peaceful to observe how water responds to these interactions, like the gentle ripples left by a ship gliding across a calm sea.

There are fascinating new creatures to find both in the ocean and on land. It feels like we’ve reached a new level of strangeness and creativity. When you first explore a planet in this game, all the technology works together to create a powerful feeling – the sense of being the very first person to set foot there. That feeling is what truly sets this game apart.
The game features a lot of new content, including a major quest that brings together storylines we’ve been developing for years. There’s also an expedition that lets you explore all the new worlds we’ve created, and it offers some fantastic rewards.
It’s been nine years since we first launched, and we’re incredibly excited about what we’ve achieved – things the community might not have imagined were possible. We can’t wait for everyone to experience it!
Thank you ever so much for your support. It means so much to me and the team.
If that wasn’t enough, we’ve also got a deep dive video you can check out below, too.
