Few games have recovered as impressively as No Man’s Sky. When it first came out in 2016, the survival space game didn’t quite deliver on the high expectations of its fans. But the developers at Hello Games kept working on it, consistently adding substantial free updates. Now, almost ten years later, No Man’s Sky has become the game many fans originally hoped for, with a much richer and more expansive open world. This dedication even earned it the Best Ongoing Game award in 2025. Because of Hello Games’ commitment to its players, No Man’s Sky remains a popular title on platforms like Steam, where thousands still play it regularly.
Industrial-Themed Orbital Base in No Man’s Sky Earns Community Approval
A lot of players in No Man’s Sky love to create and share cool bases, and Reddit user Saltheart76 recently showed off an especially impressive one. They built a circular base called “The Rig” high in the clouds above the planet Illompa. It has a strong industrial look, with buildings arranged around the edge and a walkway leading to a central tower that extends both above and below the main structure. Wires appear to connect everything, giving it a unique, held-together feel. Remarkably, this was Saltheart76’s first time building an orbital base!
I’ve been following this awesome No Man’s Sky base build that someone shared on Reddit, and it’s gotten over 6,400 upvotes! Everyone is really loving the industrial look – especially the docking area. The creator said they were inspired by movies like Titan A.E. and Waterworld, which is so cool. And the best part? They actually shared the glyphs in the post, so anyone else playing No Man’s Sky can go check it out for themselves! It’s seriously impressive.
Players love sharing their base designs online, and orbital bases are just one popular style. Some players build on land, often with fun themes – one person even recreated a Pizza Hut on a planet in No Man’s Sky! The Voyagers update last year also let players customize their starships, opening up even more possibilities for creative builds.

Over the next few months, it will be exciting to see what creative base designs players share with each other. The last big update for No Man’s Sky was Remnant in February 2026, which included a gravity gun and other additions. Even though Hello Games is also developing Light No Fire, they plan to continue adding free content to the space exploration game this year, meaning we can expect even more impressive base builds from the community.
