As a long-time fan of No Man’s Sky, I have been absolutely thrilled by the recent developments surrounding this game. The release of Worlds Part 1 update brought about a rejuvenation in the player base, with numbers soaring to an impressive 49,000 concurrent players – a figure not seen since August 2019. This surge in interest is largely due to the significant visual improvements and new content that the update has introduced.

The number of players in No Man’s Sky has spiked to a five-year peak after the launch of Worlds Part 1, a major update filled with fresh content and enhanced graphics for the sci-fi game. Despite Hello Games beginning work on a new project, they have reassured fans that development on their survival title, No Man’s Sky, is ongoing.

In addition to launching a fresh Expedition, addressing numerous bugs, and enhancing user experience, the 5.0 Update for “No Man’s Sky” significantly upgraded the game’s visual appearance. Prior to its release on July 17, Hello Games founder Sean Murray shared details in a blog post about this version’s significant modifications. These enhancements encompassed more intricate shadows, new volumetric effects, crisper water textures, and improved wind simulation. The intention behind these adjustments was to create an immersive science fiction experience for players, and the results have been impressive with a surge of interest in the game.

Approximately 49,000 players simultaneously engaged with “No Man’s Sky” a few days following the unveiling of Update 5.0, based on data from SteamDB. This figure marks the closest the game has come to such a high concurrent player count since August 2019, around the time when Update 2.0 was introduced for “No Man’s Sky.” The release of Worlds Part 1 significantly increased sales, making “No Man’s Sky” one of Steam’s top-selling games during the week of Update 5.0. Even before this update, the survival title ranked among the highest-grossing games on Valve’s platform in 2023.

  • Around 48,000

Hello Games released two updates for “No Man’s Sky” in quick succession. Patch 5.00.1 for PC players came out on July 19, and patches 5.01 for PS4 and PS5 users followed on July 22. These updates aimed to fix several troubles reported by gamers, including a crash caused by NPC interactions on freighters and an issue connected to the new Brood Mother enemy.

At The Game Awards 2023, Hello Games revealed their latest creation, titled “Light No Fire, to the audience. This upcoming game is a survival adventure set in a solitary world, but according to Murray, it will be more extensive than No Man’s Sky. To ease concerns that the development of Light No Fire might hinder work on No Man’s Sky, Murray mentioned in his blog post that Worlds Part 1 for No Man’s Sky is just a starting point, as there are more updates planned in the future.

The latest release from Hello Games, which hit the market towards the end of 2020, is titled “The Last Campfire.” This game, a puzzle adventure, may not be as grand in size and complexity as “No Man’s Sky” but has garnered significant acclaim since its debut. Critics have showered it with praise at launch, and players on Steam have given it an exceptionally positive overall rating.
