As a long-time fan of Torn Banner Studios and their groundbreaking games like No More Room in Hell 2 and Chivalry 2, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions hearing about the recent layoffs. On one hand, it’s always disheartening to see talented individuals lose their jobs, especially in the creative industry where passion and skill are crucial.
As a devoted admirer, I’m sharing the news that Torn Banner Studios, creators of No More Room in Hell 2 and Chivalry 2, have announced job cuts as part of their internal reorganization within the studio.
The news was announced on social media by CEO Steve Piggott.
Today, I’m sad to announce a tough decision made by Torn Banner Studios: we’re planning a restructuring that will necessitate letting go of some of our skilled team members.
Working independently and financing ourselves, our studio faces numerous hurdles. Yet, we’re tackling each one with utmost diligence and respect for those affected. Torn Banner Studios wouldn’t be where it is now without the commitment, enthusiasm, and achievements of our remarkable team members.
Piggott went on to assert that the team at No More Room in Hell 2 remains dedicated to completing the project and they are “fully invested” as they work towards a full version launch in 2025. According to him, this game is a key focus for the studio’s ambitions.
He mentioned that we’re diligently moving forward with all the points discussed in our plan, and even beyond it. Torn Banner remains committed to collaborating closely with our gaming community as we progress with development.
In simpler terms, the multiplayer servers for the game Chivalry 2, developed by the studio, will continue to function even after it received its last major update earlier this year.
Employees who are being terminated at the company will be given severance packages and are allowed to retain their work computers.
I’m equally committed to helping individuals secure roles at other studios too,” Piggott emphasized, sharing my passion for fostering opportunities within our creative industry.
Currently, the exact number of employees being laid off at Torn Banner Studios in this wave of reductions hasn’t been definitively stated yet. We have contacted them for more information, and we will revise this post if we receive a reply.
In 2024, it’s been estimated that more than 14,600 jobs within the gaming industry were confirmed to have been lost across over 170 different companies. According to TopMob sources, however, this figure may actually exceed 16,000 when accounting for unannounced layoffs as well.
