No Rest for the Wicked doesn’t offer a lot of guidance, even after the initial tutorial. While the game does provide quests with markers, it’s still easy to get lost or unsure of what to do next. This guide will help you prioritize your tasks after you wash ashore.
Gear Up and Gather Materials
Once the tutorial is over, you’ll be left on a beach with only worn clothes. Your first priority should be to find some equipment without getting into fights. You can find a few random items by exploring a small hideout located north of where you began.
Starting from where you are, go northeast until you see the large pool of green sewer water. Turn right, and follow the path as it curves north. You’ll find a broken sewer grate leading to a hidden area with Artemisia Herbs and a chest. Inside the chest, you might find armor, a weapon, and other useful items.
Whenever you find tools like axes, shovels, fishing rods, or pickaxes, use them to collect everything you can. Also, be sure to pick up all cooking ingredients you come across, such as Artemisia herbs or crabs. You’ll be glad you did!
Reach Sacrament
In No Rest for the Wicked, Sacrament is the central area and where you’ll spend most of your time. But getting there isn’t easy – you’ll need to battle through a bandit-controlled fortress and defeat a challenging monster guarding the town entrance.
Warrick the Torn is your current opponent, and despite his intimidating size, he’s not too difficult to defeat. Focus on dodging his lengthy attack sequences, and then strike when he becomes exhausted. Keep repeating this strategy until he’s defeated, and then you can enter the town by crossing the bridge nearby.
The Path Diverges
Now that you’ve had a chance to rest at the Rookery after the last boss, you can explore new areas. Here’s what you can do next:
- Complete Building Projects by supplying materials and resources to Maker Danos
- This will let you upgrade merchants and unlock shortcuts around Sacrament
- Continue the main questline by doing the Servant of God quest to the east of town
- Head to the top-most section of Sacrament and look for the path to the Nameless Pass
- Unlock the Crucible
- Go to the mason’s house in the cemetary in the bottom-north section of Sacrament
Complete Building Projects
It’s best to work on Building Projects whenever you’re already doing something else in No Rest for the Wicked. This is a key part of how the game progresses, so try to collect materials while you’re completing quests or exploring the world. Here are some projects we suggest focusing on first:
- Filmore’s Smithy
- Eleanor’s Enchantment Shop
- Whittacker’s Crafting Shack
- Grinnich’s General Goods
- Gordon’s Pantry
- Ilaria’s Sanctum (prioritize this if you want to get unarmed/fist weapon builds)
- Mira and Meri’s Tailor Shop
- Danos’ Architecture Study
- Caroline’s Inn
Focus on upgrading Filmore’s Smithy and Eleanor’s Enchantment Shops early on to unlock better weapons and Runes faster. Whittacker’s Crafting Shack is also important, as it will provide improved furniture for your home, like storage chests and other helpful items. Don’t forget to upgrade Grinnich’s General Goods too, since he frequently sells Rings and valuable resources.
At Gordon’s Pantry, you can buy recipes for more complex crafting projects. It also provides a Stove, letting you cook higher-quality food. We suggest getting this set up after completing about half of the Servant of God quest.
Everything else is your choice. Ilaria’s Sanctum has items for hand-to-hand combat, so only focus on that if you’re building a character around it. Mira and Meri’s Tailor Shop sells armor, but you can actually get a lot of armor for free just by completing quests for Captain Randolph.
What to Do After Servant of God in No Rest for the Wicked
After completing the Servant of God quest, go to the main plaza in Sacrament—it’s the large open area directly in front of Danos. A cutscene will begin, and once it finishes, be sure to pet the dog nearby that has a question mark above its head. The dog will then guide you to where the next part of the story begins.
If you’re having trouble with a cutscene, first complete the “Of Rats and Raiders” quest. The beginning is simple, but the latter part takes you to the Black Trench, a challenging area for level 15 players. If you’ve already finished “Servant of God,” you should be able to complete “Of Rats and Raiders” without any problems.
Farming XP and Equipment
If you’re not quite ready for Nameless Pass or the Crucible, you can improve your character by completing bounties from Captain Randolph. He’s located near the Whisper in Sacrament and offers Daily and Weekly Bounties, plus Challenges. These will reward you with gear, and if you don’t need the items you receive, you can sell them for currency.
If you’ve finished all available bounties, remember that enemies, resources, and treasure chests reappear every hour in the game. You can tell if everything has reset because the fog on your map will return to areas you’ve already visited.
Open chests to find gems you can use for Infusions. If you find a Diamond, put it in your armor to get extra XP.
Get & Use Plague Ichors
Plague Ichor is an item used to improve your character. You can trade it with the Watcher at the Rookery to expand your inventory, unlock spaces for new gear, and raise your maximum Hunger. Hunger determines how many healing items you can use during battles.
You can earn Plague Ichors by finishing Weekly Bounties given by Captain Randolph. Defeating major bosses in the game will also reward you with a Plague Ichor after your first victory against each one.
