It’s been 15 years – since 2010 – since a game exclusive to Xbox received a Game of the Year nomination.
The nominations for The Game Awards 2025 are out, and the winners will be revealed on December 11th. Unfortunately for Xbox fans, no games exclusive to Xbox received nominations this year, meaning they won’t be competing for the coveted Game of the Year title.
Xbox Exclusives Haven’t Been Nominated for GOTY for 15 Years
A recent post by Nick Marseil on X (formerly Twitter) highlighted all the Game of the Year nominees from The Game Awards, starting in 2013, and categorized them by console. PlayStation exclusives have received 15 nominations, including popular titles like The Last of Us, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and God of War. Nintendo has had 12 nominated exclusives, such as Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Notably, Xbox has not had any games nominated as exclusives.
Xbox fans might be disappointed to learn that it’s been a while since an Xbox exclusive game was even nominated for Game of the Year. The last time it happened was at the Spike Video Game Awards, with nominations for both Halo: Reach and Mass Effect 2. Unfortunately, neither of those games ultimately won the award.
Here’s a look at the games nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Donkey Kong Bananza, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, and Hades 2. Notably, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 also made history at this year’s event.
