Non-Human Anime Villains, Ranked

In some anime series, memorable villains don’t necessarily have to be human or possess deep, emotional backgrounds. Instead, they can make an indelible impact simply through their immense power, imposing demeanor, or the chilling terror they evoke – these factors alone can create a lasting impression and establish their notoriety.

In simpler terms, the villains in non-human anime are typically on a level we can’t fully grasp. They vary from ancient demons to alien invaders, from gods who destroy everything to spirits cursed with evil, and they break the laws of nature, operate outside of morality, and force heroes not only to fight physically but also grapple with deep philosophical questions. This list highlights 7 such antagonists.

7.
Kaguya Otsutsuki

Naruto Shippuden

In a time prior to perpetual conflicts and the emergence of ninjutsu, an extraterrestrial entity named Kaguya descended onto Earth and partook of the fruit from the Sacred Tree of Gods. This act rendered her the world’s first user of chakra in the Naruto universe. Unlike other celestial beings who sought to enlighten mankind or lead them towards tranquility, Kaguya aimed for dominion instead.

As a devoted fan, I’d rephrase it like this: My perspective on Naruto Shippuden changed dramatically with Kaguya’s backstory. Instead of the usual generational shinobi struggle, we were plunged into an epic cosmic tale involving gods, deceit, and insatiable power hunger. Interestingly, she emerged onto the scene only after Madara’s dreams were thwarted by Black Zetsu, who served as both her manifestation and a means for his resurrection.

Kaguya possesses eyes reminiscent of rabbits, has an otherworldly pallor, and can effortlessly alter dimensions. This makes her equally intimidating as she is powerful. Her unique technique, the Expansive Truth-Seeking Ball, possesses the destructive capability to annihilate entire dimensions. Yet, despite her immense power, Kaguya seemed devoid of emotional complexity, more akin to an untamed natural element than a typical adversary for Naruto and Sasuke. They were tasked with imprisoning her rather than trying to comprehend her.

6.
Meruem

Hunter X Hunter

In the gruesome process of massive annihilation, Meruem was born as the Chimera Ant King in Hunter x Hunter, a creature engineered for perfection, ruthlessness, and intellectual superiority. However, what truly made Meruem memorable wasn’t just his power. It was his transformation.

To start with, he paid no heed to life, be it human or animal. He mercilessly beheaded his underlings for trivial blunders and considered humans as livestock. However, everything took a dramatic turn when he crossed paths with Komugi, a blind prodigy in the game of Gungi from Hunter x Hunter universe.

His unwavering determination and self-sacrificing nature disconcerted him in ways that his makers never foreseen. The most potent entity on Earth found itself grappling with morality, existence, and life’s meaning. In the closing chapters of the Chimera Ant saga, we observed a transformation seldom granted to antagonists; instead of merely perishing, he elected to expire alongside the sole individual who had ever sparked his sense of being alive.

5.
Boros

One Punch Man

Instead of striving to dominate the entire universe, Boros sought retaliation as he had already accomplished that feat. In the world of One Punch Man, where battles usually conclude with a single strike, Boros was the rare villain who prompted Saitama to employ something other than his standard punch.

The design of this character is striking: an armored alien ruler with rejuvenative abilities and a luminescent core, emitting hues reminiscent of hot metal. Boros leads the Dark Matter Thieves and is the sole individual in Season 1 who endured multiple blows from Saitama.

Boros’ design catches the eye: he’s an armored alien monarch with healing powers and a glowing heart, giving off colors like melted metal. He’s the head of the Dark Matter Thieves and the only character from Season 1 who survived being hit multiple times by Saitama.

Utilizing Meteoric Burst, he amplifies his speed and strength almost indefinitely, even recovering from disintegration. His ultimate attack, the Collapsing Star Roaring Cannon, possesses the power to destroy an entire planet’s surface. Regrettably, this wasn’t sufficient for… (the context of the sentence should be filled here)

4.
Frieza

Dragon Ball

scarcely have any anime antagonists reached the legendary stature as Frieza from Dragon Ball. Proclaiming himself the universal emperor, Frieza maintained his dominance through terror and cruelty, leading an army that subjugated planets and wiped out entire populations, even coming close to annihilating the Saiyan race.

In his ordinary form, Frieza seems surprisingly diminutive, but this disguises an immense strength within. Clad in armor of white and purple hue that envelops his body, and armed with a long tail serving as both weapon and limb, Frieza’s appearance is not only otherworldly but also terrifying. What sets him apart as truly fearsome is his capacity to metamorphose into even more potent forms, culminating in the revelation of his actual strength potential.

Frieza’s cruelty is nearly limitless. He annihilated Planet Vegeta out of fear of a potential Super Saiyan, and during the Namek Saga, he callously killed countless Namekians in search of Dragon Balls. His torment of Vegeta and killing of Krillin drove Goku to attain the powerful Super Saiyan transformation, which Frieza had been so anxious about.

3.
Muzan Kibutsuji

Demon Slayer

Initially appearing as if he belonged among the gentlemen of a Taisho-era street, Muzan exudes an air of sophistication with his well-tailored attire and composed demeanor, bordering on elegance. However, beneath this tranquil facade lies the first demon to have been born, the one who has inflicted every ounce of suffering in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

1. He transformed Nezuko into a demonic form.

2. Tragically, he annihilated Tanjiro’s family.

3. Throughout much of the series, he operates covertly, manipulating events from behind the scenes, disguising himself, and blending in with everyday life.

Muzan’s abilities surpass mere physical prowess. He boasts extraordinary regenerative capabilities, the knack for transforming into different forms, command over his own blood, and the unique talent to summon demons from his bloodstream instantly. The Twelve Kizuki, his high-ranking followers, tremble at the prospect of his anger.

His one vulnerability was the sun, and he would go to any lengths, any lengths at all, to overcome it. This fear was amplified when Nezuko demonstrated her resistance to sunlight. In the climactic storyline, we witness a desperate being performing extreme acts, including transforming a child into a vessel for his survival, in order to evade death.

2.
Sukuna

Jujutsu Kaisen

In the realm of Jujutsu Kaisen, Ryomen Sukuna embodies an extraordinary fusion of a demonic nature, warlord might, and unyielding ego. Nicknamed the “King of Curses,” this moniker is far from hyperbole. Amidst a universe teeming with malevolent spirits and powerful sorcerers, Sukuna towers supreme.

When Yuji Itadori’s body is assumed, there’s no mistaking his change. His eyes multiply, his voice becomes deeper, and his grin transforms into something chilling. There’s an eerie charm about him that’s downright terrifying.

Sukuna isn’t only aiming for destruction; rather, he seeks control or dominance. During the Shibuya arc, a glimpse of his strength was shown as he effortlessly obliterated an entire district. In Season 2, the full extent of his power is revealed, leading to one of the most terrifying battles in contemporary anime.

1.
Beerus

Dragon Ball

In contrast to conventional villains, Beerus is more like a divine entity, tasked with preserving cosmic balance by causing destruction. His entrance in Dragon Ball Super brought an unexpected twist, causing characters like Goku, Vegeta, and King Kai to show immense reverence out of fear.

Despite being lethargic, having a strong appetite, and being easily swayed by his emotions, Beerus is capable of unleashing an immense power that overshadows most displays seen within the series. He even threatened to destroy Earth over a simple dessert like pudding. Additionally, he can sleep for extended periods, often decades at a time.

In a swift and impressive manner, he managed to overpower Super Saiyan 3 Goku, surpassed Vegeta, and compelled Goku to access Super Saiyan God – a transformation birthed by the fear of Beerus’ power. The battle with Goku didn’t result in defeat but instead earned him respect.

As time goes by, Beerus has transformed from a menacing figure into a laid-back guide. Despite maintaining his role as a God of Destruction, he occasionally enjoys food and imparts wisdom to the Saiyans who were previously targeted for annihilation by him.
