Summary
- Norman Reedus open to starring in Death Stranding movie as Sam Porter.
- No details yet on Death Stranding movie casting or release date.
- Hideo Kojima not directing any sequels despite future plans for franchise.
Although it has been revealed for some time now that Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding is being adapted into a movie, no leading actor has been chosen for the role yet. Since the game’s main character is portrayed by a well-known Hollywood actor, wouldn’t it have been logical to consider him for the film version as well?
Behind the curtains, it remains unclear what transpires, yet Norman Reedus, known for his role as the main character in The Walking Dead, shows excitement about potentially portraying the same character on the silver screen.
Norman Reedus Keen To Star In Death Stranding Movie If Asked

In an interview with IGN, Norman Reedus, who plays the main character Sam Porter in the game, expressed his readiness to take on the role for the movie adaptation if offered the chance.
When asked about potentially playing himself in the game in the future, Reedus replied, “Absolutely, I would.” He then went on to say, “I’m not sure what’s going on with it yet. It’s still very early stages, but yes, of course.
When asked about his initial confusion with the first game and if he felt the same going into the second one, Reedus responded that it’s hard for anyone to fully grasp Kojima’s unique approach. However, as far as working with him and understanding his thought process, Reedus said nobody can really fathom that. Yet, Kojima is known for having brilliant ideas. As for the storyline, Reedus admitted he had a better idea of what was happening in the second game. There’s more action and a clearer objective in it.
If Norman Reedus isn’t selected as the main character in the film, it could potentially be one of the most peculiar decisions ever made in cinema. Given that he is an established Hollywood actor and the role is essentially a mirror image of himself, such a casting choice might seem unusual. However, since we can never truly predict what Hideo Kojima might do when it comes to casting, there’s always the possibility of some unexpected decisions being made.
As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be watching the Death Stranding movie, which will be brilliantly directed by Michael Sarnoski, the mastermind behind Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One. The production powerhouses, A24 and Kojima Productions, are at the helm of this project. As of now, no actors have been announced, and the release date remains undetermined, but with it already in pre-production, I can hardly wait to see it come to life!
In the upcoming installment of this series, players will find two distinct visual styles to select. However, Hideo Kojima won’t be at the helm for future sequels, but he does have ideas about its potential direction.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be released on June 26, 2025, exclusively on the PS5.
