As a dedicated fan of the Animal Crossing series since its humble beginnings on the GameCube, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as I hear about the impending shutdown of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. Over the years, Pocket Camp has provided endless hours of relaxation and joy, allowing me to escape from reality and build my dream campsite in the company of my beloved animal friends.

In late November 2024, the widely-enjoyed mobile version of Animal Crossing called “Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp” will cease operation following more than seven years of service. The servers for this game are set to be turned off on Thanksgiving Day, making it impossible to play after that time. However, players might still be able to visit their campsites at some point in the future.

Global launch of ‘Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp’ took place on November 21, 2017. Much like other ‘Animal Crossing’ games available on Nintendo systems, this mobile version lets players catch insects and fish, pick fruits from trees, and carry out friendly deeds for the diverse cast of campers visiting their campsite. What truly sets it apart is the ability to gather a vast assortment of items to personalize and make comfortable their own campsites.

Despite the sad news, the creators of the game have shared on its official website that it’s going to be closed down. All servers are set to turn off on November 28, at 10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time and 7 a.m. Pacific Standard Time. Players will be able to move their data, including their campsite arrangement, over to the forthcoming mobile version of Animal Crossing, which is expected to take over from Pocket Camp. However, it’s important to note that before the game shuts down, players should set up a free Nintendo Online account and choose “Link Nintendo Account” in the game’s settings, if they haven’t done so already.

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Is Shutting Down In November

Instead of shutting down Pocket Camp, Nintendo is currently developing a new version of the popular Animal Crossing mobile game. When this new game launches, players can transfer their campsite data from Pocket Camp. However, unlike its predecessor, this replacement app will be a paid application without any in-app purchases. This new app won’t require an ongoing internet connection, enabling users to enjoy Animal Crossing on their phones independently. While it offers the Animal Crossing experience on mobile devices, it will lack features like visiting other players’ campsites, exchanging gifts, and accessing Market Boxes.

In the past, “Pocket Camp” has been free for everyone, but it also offers optional purchases like Leaf Tickets, which is the game’s premium currency. You can earn Leaf Tickets through various methods such as logging in, but the new app won’t support them anymore, so make sure to use any you have before “Pocket Camp” shuts down its servers. Also, keep in mind that the subscription service for “Pocket Camp Club” will end on October 28th. However, those with a subscription will receive a badge that lets them access premium content until “Pocket Camp” officially closes.
