NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series To Consume More Power Than 40 Series

As a gamer with years of experience under my belt and a wallet that’s seen better days, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and dread upon hearing about the upcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series. On one hand, I’m eager to see what kind of graphical wonders these new cards will bring to my gaming experience. On the other, the rumors of increased power consumption have me worrying about whether my power bill will be as high as the graphics card itself.

It’s been suggested that the forthcoming NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 collection, encompassing models like the 5080 and more, might draw significantly more power than the existing 40 series. Some of these new graphics cards could potentially use up to 33% more power compared to their predecessors.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve been hearing whispers for a while now about the upcoming GeForce RTX 50 series potentially guzzling more power. But just yesterday, a reliable source dropped a tweet that left no room for doubt: these new graphics cards are indeed going to need more juice to keep them running smoothly.

Twitter Leaker Reveals That GeForce RTX 50 Series Will Consume More Power Than 40 Series

The current GeForce RTX 4080 and its peers from the 40 series are already quite power-hungry during operation. Therefore, the upcoming 50 series is expected to significantly exceed the power consumption limits.

There’s been some criticism from NVIDIA GeForce enthusiasts, as they hope the company focuses more on improving efficiency rather than power consumption.

According to the Twitter leaker, kopite7kimi, there’s an individual who has acquired information about the GeForce of Blackwell’s specifications not too long ago. It appears that both these new models exhibit a rise in energy consumption, and the high-end versions consume even more power.

Later, when someone commented on his post saying “I’d suggest 550W for a 5090,” the leaker replied with simply “more.” This implies an increase of over 100W from the previous 450W of the 4090 model. It seems these upcoming graphics cards will demand significantly more power.

When Will The 50 Series Release?

At present, there’s limited knowledge available about the NVIDIA GeForce 50 series. Although there are whispers suggesting they may consume a substantial amount of power, it’s also speculated that we might get a glimpse of these graphics cards at CES 2025, which is next year.

At this moment, tech and gaming aficionados are left in anticipation for further insights regarding the 50 series.
