I had a fun moment today – my name, Grant, was suggested as a possible answer to the NYT Connections puzzle! It’s a small thing, but it’s definitely the highlight of my weekend.
Happy Friday! With October winding down, let’s keep the winning streak going. I hope you’re scoring as well as I am on today’s NYT Connections! Share your progress below – I’d love to hear how you’re doing with the hints.
What is NYT Connections?
Before I share today’s hints for the NYT Connections game, I want to quickly give you some background information.
NYT Connections launched in June 2023 and quickly became popular, and it’s not hard to understand why. This free game from the New York Times is easy to access for players all over the world, whether they’re using a computer or the mobile app.
NYT Connections is a great way to pass the time during your commute or while you’re waiting for something, like coffee.
But how do you play NYT Connections?

It’s relatively simple, and that’s why it’s the best New York Times game, in my opinion.
Each day, the New York Times will give you 16 words arranged in a grid. Your job is to divide those words into four groups of four, based on what they have in common. There’s only one correct solution to each puzzle, and sometimes the words can be misleading, making it a bit challenging to solve.
The words are also color-coded to show how challenging they are: yellow is the easiest, followed by blue, green, and then purple, which is the most difficult.
The important thing to remember is you only get four tries each day. Once you’ve used those, you won’t be able to solve today’s NYT Connections puzzle – it’s game over!
Today’s NYT Connections Hints (October 25)
If you’re stuck on today’s NYT Connections puzzle but don’t want the answers given to you, let’s start by just looking at the words. Simply seeing them might be enough to get you thinking and help you find the connections.
Here are the NYT Connections words from today’s puzzle, #867:
- DATE
- VEST
- LIGHT
- SHAFT
- RAY
- FLEECE
- ALARM
- LINCOLN
- GRANT
- MILK
- HOSE
- AWAR
- HUSTLE
- STOPWATCH
- ACCORD
- CAPOTE
And here are the hints I can offer for today’s NYT Connections:
- Yellow – These words mark the peak of something — think career highs, golden eras, or when someone was “in their prime.”
- Green – These are all formatting options — the kind you’d find in a word processor or messaging app.
- Blue – These are vibrant by nature — often used metaphorically to describe something dazzling or full of variety.
- Purple – Each word ends with something you might wear or carry — but the full word itself isn’t necessarily about fashion.
Here’s the final warning before we get to the NYT Connections answers for today, October 25.
