What is NYT Connections?
I should probably give you some background information before sharing today’s hints for the NYT Connections game.
NYT Connections launched in June 2023 as the newest game from the New York Times, and it quickly became popular. It’s easy to understand why – the game is free to play and available to anyone around the world, whether they’re using a computer or the mobile app.
NYT Connections is a great way to pass the time, whether you’re commuting or waiting for your coffee.
But how do you play NYT Connections?

It’s relatively simple, and that’s why it’s the best New York Times game, in my opinion.
Okay, so every day the New York Times gives me 16 words and my job is to split them into four groups of four. Basically, I have to figure out what those words all have in common to make the groups work. It can be tough because there’s only one right answer, and sometimes a word could almost fit into multiple groups, which really throws me off! It’s a fun challenge though.
The words are also color-coded – yellow, blue, green, and purple – to show how challenging they are. The colors go from easiest (yellow) to hardest (purple).
The important thing to remember is you only get four tries each day. Use them all up, and you won’t be able to solve today’s NYT Connections puzzle – that’s when the game ends.
