NYT Connections Hints Today (#940)—Clues and Answers for Tuesday, January 6

As we start January, we’re also looking ahead to 2026! There will be plenty of NYT Connections puzzles to enjoy in the coming year, but let’s focus on the one you have right now and try to solve it quickly.

With that being said, I’ve got the NYT Connections hints and solutions you need below. Have fun!

What is NYT Connections?

I should probably give a little background information before sharing today’s hints for the NYT Connections game.

NYT Connections launched in June 2023 as the newest game from the New York Times, and it quickly became popular. This free game is easy to access for anyone around the world, whether they’re using a computer or the mobile app.

NYT Connections is a great way to pass the time, whether you’re commuting or waiting for something like coffee.

But how do you play NYT Connections?

It’s relatively simple, and that’s why it’s the best New York Times game, in my opinion.

Each day, the New York Times Connections game gives you a grid with 16 words. Your goal is to sort those words into four groups of four, based on what they have in common. There’s only one correct solution to each puzzle, and sometimes the words can be misleading, making it a bit challenging.

The words are also color-coded to show how challenging they are: yellow is the easiest, followed by blue, then green, and finally purple, which is the most difficult.

The key thing to remember is you only get four tries each day. Use them all up, and you won’t be able to solve today’s NYT Connections puzzle – that’s when the game ends.
