Oblivion Designer Reacts To The New Remastered Version

Yesterday, the much-anticipated remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was unexpectedly unveiled and made accessible on contemporary gaming platforms as a stealth launch.

Regardless of concerns about its pricing and exclusive cosmetic elements and missions that can only be accessed with additional payment, it was enthusiastically received by its fanbase, solidifying its place among the top-selling games on Steam.

One of the initial creators of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has expressed his thoughts on the changes made by Bethesda Game Studios and Virtuos in the latest edition of the game.

Bruce Nesmith, an experienced developer from Bethesda Game Studios, who played a crucial role in The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion as a senior designer, feels that referring to this release as merely a “remaster” undervalues the depth and quality of this game.

During a chat with VideoGamer, he mentioned that he wasn’t familiar with the project at first. It was only when the leaks surfaced online that he became acquainted with it.

Pride Is The Number One Thing I Feel

Initially, he thought the extent of changes would resemble The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. However, he was taken aback by the impressive upgrades available in this updated version of Oblivion.

Initially, I thought this update was just going to be about textures. I never imagined it would turn out to be a full-blown overhaul as they’ve announced! Changing animations, the animation system, switching to Unreal Engine, altering the leveling system, redesigning the user interface… That’s not just remastering, it’s revamping every corner of the game. Frankly, I think we need a new term for this scale of work. ‘Remaster’ seems too modest for what they’re planning.

He thinks that this latest iteration is akin to “Oblivion’s Second Edition“, and he takes immense pride in it, as the game he contributed to continues to be acknowledged even today.

What fills me with pride most is the success of a project I’ve worked on. It continues to captivate people twenty years after its release, making every moment spent on it worthwhile.

Experience the revamped version of “The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered” on every platform! Its massive 125GB file size might seem daunting, but if storage concerns are a worry, consider subscribing to Game Pass instead.
