The recent Steam rating for the remastered version of “The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion” has been rated as “Mixed,” reflecting several persistent problems that have left PC users feeling disgruntled. Initially released by Bethesda Softworks, the game enjoyed high popularity across various platforms shortly after its unexpected release earlier this year. Regrettably, the PC version encountered a rocky debut and fell short of satisfying many dedicated fans’ expectations.
In just a few days following the unexpected launch of the remastered version of “Oblivion,” it managed to garner more than 200,000 simultaneous players on Steam. This was considered quite an achievement. However, the number of players started decreasing rapidly, and by July, it had peaked at just around 10,000. This rapid decline in player count was often attributed to the game’s short campaign. Unfortunately, Oblivion Remastered has now reached a disappointing benchmark on Steam that is unrelated to its story length.
Oblivion Remastered Players Aren’t Happy with Its Performance on PC
The overall rating for the latest Steam reviews of ‘Oblivion Remastered’ has slipped to Mixed, indicating a large number of players are dissatisfied with the PC version. A common theme in these negative reviews appears to be technical problems such as stuttering frame rates and lengthy loading periods. Some Steam users even assert that the game functioned better at its initial release, implying that subsequent updates for ‘Oblivion Remastered’ may have adversely affected its performance.
Discontented gamers have expressed concerns about the prolonged waiting periods for Bethesda Game Studios and Virtuos to release game patches. Despite swift back-to-back major updates in June and July, there’s been a lack of follow-up hotfixes to address the lingering problems. Some players question whether the team is currently developing another update or if the July patch for Oblivion Remastered marked the end of them.
Besides experiencing performance challenges, the remastered version of “Oblivion” has encountered difficulties in accommodating user-created mods as well. It’s important to note that for many fans, a significant allure of this franchise lies within the extensive and innovative modifications constructed by the community. Unfortunately, without this feature, “Oblivion Remastered” falls behind its counterparts such as “Skyrim,” which prosper due to robust mod support.

Currently, the number of simultaneous players for Oblivion Remastered on Steam is at its minimum, reaching approximately 4,000 players at its peak. It seems that a significant number of previous Oblivion Remastered enthusiasts have returned to playing Skyrim, as many find it to offer greater replay value and benefited from the modding community’s ongoing support over time. This decline in player count raises questions about whether Bethesda Game Studios and Virtuos can eventually fix the PC issues or if the game will persistently struggle on this platform.
