This year, Halo Studios is winding down the participation of Halo Infinite in the Halo Championship Series following the event scheduled for late October. Since the relaunch of the eSports competition alongside the game in 2021, Halo Infinite has been the official title for the Halo Championship Series. After a remarkable run of four years as the headlining game at this renowned event, it marks the end of an era, as this year’s Halo World Championship from October 24-26 will be its last competitive outing.
Over the past four years, the game Halo Infinite has undergone significant changes as it serves as the official eSports title for the series. Initially, developer Halo Studios (formerly known as 343 Industries) provided seasonal support to the game, frequently introducing seasonal updates, balance adjustments, and content expansions that maintained the online play engaging and active. However, Halo Studios has now moved away from the seasonal update cycle towards Operation Passes organized in tiers. Yet, a recent summer update for Halo Infinite showcases their ongoing commitment to the game’s support, incorporating a new weapon and various cosmetic items within a newly released battle pass.
As per an eSports announcement from Halo Studios, the game “Halo Infinite” will no longer be part of the Halo Championship Series following its final appearance at the 2025 Halo World Championship in Seattle from October 24-26. However, Halo Studios have expressed their continued support for side events like online and LAN competitions. The Halo Championship Series itself is taking a break, and it won’t resume in 2026 with a new game title. It’s uncertain at this point if the absence of a new “Halo” game in 2026 or simply the event’s delay in adopting a new title is what the update implies.
Halo Infinite is Retiring From eSports
The announcement ignites whispers about a significant Halo reveal at this year’s Halo World Championship, hinting that more information will be shared via HaloWC about what’s to come. Halo Studios assures the Halo community that they will keep them informed on the progress of their new eSports game, with another update anticipated in late 2026.
It’s uncertain what lies ahead for Master Chief and the Halo franchise; with only a book as the confirmed sequel for Halo Infinite, and the speculated story DLC not materializing, there’s a possibility that Halo Studios might be preparing a genuine successor. The studio has hinted at significant announcements during this year’s Halo World Championship, so here’s hoping Halo fans won’t have to endure until 2026 to get a sneak peek of the next installment in the series.
