October 30 Will Be the End of an Era for EA

It’s kind of crazy to think that FIFA 23’s servers are going offline on October 30th – it really feels like the end of a long run for EA. It all started way back in 1993 with the original *FIFA International Soccer* on the Sega Genesis. That game was a huge success and launched what became EA’s yearly FIFA releases. From that first game in ’93 all the way up to FIFA 23, which came out in 2022, they kept putting out a new one every year!

After ending their long-standing partnership in 2022, EA could no longer create games under the FIFA name. This meant there wasn’t a *FIFA 24* game. Instead, EA relaunched the series as *EA Sports FC 24*, followed by *EA Sports FC 25* and *EA Sports FC 26*.

When is FIFA 23 Shutting Down?

  • October 30

Despite losing the license to use the FIFA name, *FIFA 23* has remained playable online for the past three years. However, EA is ending support for the game’s online features on October 30th. After that date, you won’t be able to play *FIFA 23* online, effectively ending the final game in a series that began in 1993 with the Sega Genesis.

It’s disappointing that the servers for *FIFA 23* are closing, but fans can still enjoy newer soccer games from EA, even though they’re now released under a different name. These games are consistently popular sellers, so the series is likely to continue for a long time.

With Electronic Arts becoming a private company, some people are understandably worried about its future. However, the continued success of *EA Sports FC* should keep it as a key part of the company, even after the purchase is finalized. Currently, the team is concentrating on *EA Sports FC 26*, and they’ll keep updating it with new content until the next version comes out next year.
